We often say "If you have nothing nice to say, feel free to skip this thread" or "Don't argue with other responses in an Ask MeFi thread", but we don't provide the easiest way people can do this.

I swear, I saw it with my own two eyes.....
I'm interested in hearing your stories of things you've seen that no one else perhaps saw, or that you have no proof of, either good or bad but preferably good.
2023 MeFi Holiday Card Exchange
It's the 7th MeFi Holiday Card Exchange!
Local music library streaming thread
I’m looking for a thread from the past month about a few libraries (Seattle and San José are the two I remember) who set up streaming services for local unsigned bands. Searches for “music streaming libraries” or the cities in question haven’t shown me the thread. Help?
mefi nonprofit - project update for November 19
The group planning the transition to make MetaFilter a nonprofit held its first meeting Nov. 15. This is a brief update to keep you all up to date with the progress made.
healthcare more like HELLthcare am I right
Hi (US only) friends! It's health insurance decision season for most of us and we live in a grim dystopia where everything is expensive and nothing makes sense. Employer-sponsored benefits are something I know enough to be helpful about (I hope!) and I'm here volunteering my ability to speak the language, if you need it.
MeFi Nonprofit -- Volunteers, Purpose, Name
Now that we have formed an interim board to become a MeFi nonprofit, we can move on to a few next items.

MeFi Business/Legal Update Follow-Up
Hi folks -- here's a thread to talk about constructive next steps after this thread from two weeks ago.
Did I mis-remember or does this Mefi post exist? [holiday gift list]
I remember at least two MeFI posts about an annual gift/list and/or catalogue that was full of ridiculously expensive and very niche holiday gifts and the author of the link to the article(s) was just delightfully sassy and salty about the entire list and the associated prices.
Douglas Rushkoff gives MeFi mods a shoutout
In ep.267 (25/10/2023) of his podcast, Being Human, Rushkoff gives a particular mention of MetaFilter in a long talk about social media.
Fundraising Idea -- MeFi Book(s)
The "Life Hack" question now on AskMe made me think of this. Over the years, AskMe has collected a bunch of enduring info on life hacks and other topics. One or more people could organize that, put it into a booklet form and sell it for the good of MeFi. Or would that be any conflict?

MetaFilter: The Quickening
Proposition: We should consider lowering the waiting time for new posts on the blue from one day to 12 hours.

MeFi Business/Legal Update
Thanks for your patience as I have worked through talking with lawyers who talk with their experts. This is a substantive update with some news and some questions for the community. The short form is: everyone on the team of people I spoke with agrees that MeFi could potentially be a non-profit organization (with the ultimate determination being made by the IRS). Now we need to decide how to move forward and make MeFi into a community-run organization. I'll give some backstory and a "where we are with this" situation inside.
Book club for MeFi
I suggested a book club in the "How will we care for our elderly" post on the blue and want to follow up and make this happen. Mods, should I put this book club in Projects? Meetups? Chat? All three? It will be virtual of course, and probably mostly asynchronous, but I imagine adding in an every other month or every three months Zoom chat.
MetaFilter: Nazi bar problem.
I want to discuss how the MetaFilter community addresses comments and users who support or defend Nazi/fascist ideology. A user over in this thread, which discusses Canada's House speaker praising a Nazi veteran, had their comment removed and was given a moderator's note regarding this decision. But I don't find this acceptable. Why would we allow additional comments from this user to be made in that thread? An instant ban would be appropriate for anyone who wants to defend Nazis in this community, otherwise MetaFilter is just setting ourselves up for a Nazi bar problem. I'd like both the moderator team and the community to weigh in on this.
