Searching AskMeFi - Can searches be filtered by date?

I love doing searches of AskMeFi for lots of different things. But I find it tedious to scour through posts looking for the most recent answers. Lots of times the info I am looking for is only relevant if it's fairly recent (within the past 2 years). Unfortunately there seems to be no rhyme or reason to which posts get listed first in a search. It's certainly not the most recent. Is there a way to filter searches by date? Would anyone else find that helpful/useful? Thanks!

Moderating Conspiracy Theories

The words we write on the internet have an effect, most especially, irresponsible ones like those in "Some nerdy Redditors have doubts about 2024 election integrity."

MeFi status when metafilter.com is down

Does Metafilter have someplace that we can go to check on the health of MeFi itself, or get repair updates, that's NOT hosted at Metafilter itself? Other websites will often have an Twitter account for that. I realize that MeFi has left Twitter, but is there someplace else we can go to check, when MeFi itself goes down?

Like Brigadoon, this fortune appears only once every 15 years

In 2010 I asked a question about a mysterious fortune cookie fortune I received.

The Art of the FPP

You people who post, please share your thoughts on the craft. How does the post come together? What are your criteria for success?

What's the plan, Stan, for Trump 2025?

Given how much this previous administration hived off a lot of users, what's the mods/owner's plan for this?

Export A-Go-Go

The "Export My Comments" feature, linked from the profile page, supposedly downloads "a file that includes all of your comments across all MetaFilter sites", but its definition of "all" is out of date.

No love for FanFare?

FanFare does not get a ton of traffic, any thoughts on how to change that?

Volunteer MeFi Modding

A number of people have called for volunteer moderation at MeFi. The No. 1 question about that is, how many people are willing to be a volunteer moderator, and for how many hours a week?

Why was this post not deleted?

This post does not seem beloved by its countrymen.

Happy Holidays! What are you doing?

Hi y'all!

With the major holidays reaching their peak this week, how are you spending them this year, what are you up to? Any special travel plans, or particular dishes you’re making this time around? What are you most looking forward to doing?

An annual "State of MetaFilter" email?

What do people think about starting a tradition of an annual "State of MetaFilter" email to all members for each new year? A lot of changes happened in 2024 (for example: non-profit status, site code rewrite started), not everyone follows MetaTalk, and it would be a way to remind members who haven't participated in a while that MetaFilter is still here to encourage them to participate again.

Metafilter Card Club -- it's still a thing!

Mefi Card Club was started as an ongoing card swap in March of 2018, and still continues to this day (approaching 7 years, whew!). It's been a bit since we've had a Metatalk post about this and we could use some more participants to keep this sustainable, so I figured it was time. If you want to continue the fun of sending and receiving cards and not limit it to just the holiday season, come join us!

2024 Fanfare EXTRAVAGANZA

Welcome to the first ever (as far as I know!) Fanfare extravaganza. I have created a place where we can share recommended books, movies, tv, music, games, podcasts we have read, watched, listened to, or played this year.

Ride Along With A Mod

I think a lot of the community doesn't understand how busy Mods are in their day to day shifts. It would probably be good for mod/community relationships to give a few users a chance to shadow a mod for a shift or two, so that we can get a better idea of the workload that mods are under, which would probably allow the community to take a step back and give the mods some breathing room. Is there any chance of that?

All Hail Night_Owl, 2024 Champion of MeFi Reboot Fantasy Football

With a regular season record of 11-4, Night_Owl's "Won't You Be My Naybors" defeated "Stroud Proud" (12-3) for the championship.

As promised, I donated $100 to MetaFilter in honor of Night_Owl's victory (receipts upon request), and offer this post as proof of her cunning and skill. She may brag on all of us who participated, and, frankly, all of you who didn't participate, whom she clearly also beat.

MetaFilter Ride Along#3

Hello! There were several interesting situations going on while moderating this morning, so I did another Ride Along video to talk about various mod decisions made this morning. (TikTok, YouTube, same video, 10min, has captions so you can just listen or read along)

Bingo!!

Hey! Community member Wobbuffet suggested we play a MetaFilter type version of bingo, so let's view or download the card, then get into the rules

HOW TO PLAY:
Complete 5 spots in a row, by making a post or doing the action in the square. You can work in any direction you like (horizontal, vertical, diagonal). Or expand that to include an X, a T, picture frames, a small blackout, a full blackout, whatever your heart desires! Once you're done, return to this thread, type "Bingo" and let us know which squares you did!

When making a post related to this game, please tag it as 'MefiBingo2024'.

There's a few notes inside about categories.
