Is "please no name calling" a big ask?
I'm bringing this up in regards to this comment, amongst many others.
Is there a reason we can't just call Trump Trump? Is there a reason that we need to come up with some nickname like Lemon Husk for Elon Musk?
Even TFG is confusing as some think it means "That Fucking Guy" when originally it was a quote from Biden about "That Former Guy" (which is still relatively demeaning).
I think our community is better than silly name calling. I also think our community is getting so much better at accessibility that they would understand how, for some of us, jumbling letters in names just breaks or ability to interact with the content one posts.
Closing an AskMeta
What is the situation with a person closing their own AskMeta when they no longer need more responses, especially when there's a pile up going on?

Just letting everyone know that we've been informed that community member bigbigdog passed away on May 18, 2024
Previously on MetaFilter
Is it time to let go of "Previously?" Some topics have been explored, revisited, or detailed here many times, meaning that revisiting them in order to choose a "Previously" can be a time-consuming exercise. In 2024, MetaFilter tags, the search bar, and search engines provide many ways to access old site content.* Finding older relevant MetaFilter content is not the challenge that it was in 1999. On the other hand, MeFites do still comment favorably on things they have found in "Previously" links.
A Bit of My Landlord’s Ear at last
Speaking of old AskMes, I finally found the answer to mintcake!’s question about an old MTV comedy bit that’s been taunting me for 12 years.
A bit of my landlord’s ear!
confirming - occasional chatty posts on the Blue?
I seem to recall that chatty posts on the Blue were discouraged, but that that's changed (hence the rise of the weekly-ish Free Thread). Can we confirm policy and maybe get it in the FAQ?
blog about interruptions and communication
I remember reading several years ago a blog post or similar about how some groups of people interrupt each other to show enthusiasm, framed as the author being explained this by a friend who he called Gandalf because he was a clever wizard or something like that. i'm pretty sure I read it hear because I remember a comment complaining about the wizard shtick. Does anyone know what I'm thinking of?
Team Threaded Comments
As requested, this is a MeTa post to discuss the derail that happened in this other MeTa post.
Animal Companions (esp. dogs) of Metafilter
It's time. And I think we would all benefit from a post of animal pics, specifically our own animal friends, especially dogs. (I apologize to the cat people who didn't post first so they could say "especially cats". I also like cats.) I suggest we limit the number of photos to.... just kidding. Post them all!
How to show and hide US political posts
Hi all, just a quick note about US political posts for those interested in them and those who are not.

Most Answers or Comments?
I am curious about which posts on the blue have gotten the most comments (not counting things such as U.S. politics megathreads), or which questions on Ask have gotten the most answers. How feasible is that to find out? It would be cool if those were set off, as another way to see what has had a lot of engagement.
Adding year of release to Fanfare front page posts
This has been asked before, in Nov 2022, when the site owner called it a "really good idea" and a then-current tech person said it seemed "uncontroversial and positive, so I'll put that on the pile of things to do." Is this still something the community thinks is worth doing? If so, any chance it could be implemented? It might increase engagement in an area of the site that could use it. I know I'd find it useful, anyway.
FPP about manipulated Reality TV show
I'm looking for a FPP for an article about a Reality TV show. It was about a woman, maybe LGBTQ+, who went to live on a ranch or a house, and the producers had lied to the participants about her identity, or her circumstances, etc. I can't remember if they said she wasn't LGBTQ+ and then it came out she was, or something like that. I think there was something in it where the other participants treated her poorly, but overall she wasn't as upset as you might expect.

Help me re-find this file organization scheme
A couple of months ago, I was poking around on AskMetafilter for productivity things. I found my way, via a comment on an oldish-post, to an organization system for computer files that I got excited about, started to implement without even reading the whole thing, and have found very helpful. Now I'd like to read more about the system and I can't find the link again.
MetaMixTapes: Cats
Let's make a mixtape!
(I'm never sure how appropriate it is to do something light and fun on MeTa so apologies if there's another corner of the site that I haven't considered that would be better for this.)
Please give full names before using acronyms
Whether it's the name of a person, a drug or medical treatment, a non-governmental organization (NGO), a less-common internet term, or something specific to your field of interest, please spell it out and only then use the acronym.
Thanks, chariot pulled by cassowaries
This is a public thank you to chariot pulled by cassowaries for their frequent posts of good news from the natural world. It brightens my day to read about plants and animals recovering adversity, and people being not-terrible in helping them. Cheers to you.
