It seems pretty clear that if people can get banned for posting a goatse URL in the title of a post, crusiera should be permabanned for posting a link that both violates privacy (the copying and submission of clipboard data) and is clearly a GNAA troll.

With apologies to 1:

I recall when we interviewed Matt live on air from nyc. I was so fucking proud. There I am, fortunate to share time with remarkable people within our studios; dignitaries, authors, politicians, filmmakers, musicians.

And I there I was... friggin star-struck at the cat whom I had long known for his works and the massive community that he developed. No red carpet, no Beamer, no paparazzi, just this quiet spoken dude who had an idea and ran with, to a point that 90% of NPR staff have this joint bookmarked.

Today that pride is a little sad. 'Still am star-struck, but now for many of my friends at MeFi, but the pride today has slouched shoulders.

This is embarrassing.

You know, www.whatthefuckmatt?.com is available.

BlueDaniel, it'll take time to weed out the dumbshits who don't need or really want to be here.

Idiots.

Crusiera knew exactly what he was doing - he is a mastermind. Count how many times he used the words fuck, cock, tits, shit, boobs, everywhere on metafilter, metatalk, and ask me, before all of his posts were deleted by Matt, who is obviously trying to keep this information for himself. 2,005, exactly. Crusiera is 16 years old. 1-6. Today's date is 1-6, 2005 - the date that he was ordered to pass on the secret code. Now rearrange the letters in crusiera. Aries cru. Aries is the sign of the Ram. Cru is leet speak for crew. The Ram Crew. The St Louis Rams. Now multiple 2005 (how often each word was used) by 5 (for each word - fuck, cock, tits, shit, boobs...) to get 10,025. The exact number of hot dogs that were sold last weekend at the Big and Beefy Hot Dog kiosk at the Edward Jones Dome, the stadium where the Rams play in St. Louis. Now. Rearrange the letters in fuck cock tits shit boobs, you get cubbish foots ticktocks. Translate that into Italian: ticktocks dei foots del cubbish. The first letter of each word: TDFDC. Rearrange the letters to FTDDC, which stands for Find The Divine Deity's Cup. The Holy Grail.

The Holy Grail is hidden somewhere beneath the grill in the Big and Beefy Hot Dog Kiosk!

It's almost credible. Someone goes to bugmenot to get a login for that other community, but recognizes cruisera's name from MeFi or MoFi and decides to see if it works here. Then has a ball. If that's the case, then the "good" and "bad" cruisera postings will have been posted from different networks, something Matt can check by doing a reverse lookup on the IP address.

On the other hand, why bother? Posting your username and password on bugmenot is certainly grounds for account deletion, even if it doesn't actually say "hey guess what this works on MetaFilter too."

I don't know if I believe Cruisera or not, but it seems pretty academic to me.

We are either talking about a bad user or a compromised account. Either way, the account has the be shut down.

Then it's Cruisera's job to try to find out who took over his account and how (if that's what actually happened). Until he has done that, he can't keep up his half of the implied contract of keeping the login ID and password he provides to metafilter during signup confidential.

When he has sorted that out, he can pay another $5, and if any tomfoolery happens at that point, it either indicates that he was the original jackass (permanent bannage), or that he didn't track down a security leak, even though it was clear it existed, before signing back up (also permanent bannage).
posted by Bugbread at 10:13 AM on January 6, 2005

George and fenriq noticed it too. Read more carefully before you activate your self-righteous powers of petty grudges.

What? jonson's point stil lstands in my mind: he didn't post his Mefi account info, he posted his info for a different site and it happens to be the same. What are the odds of that happening? It wouldn't even occur to me that might happen. Which makes it less likely to be true, I suppose, but it still makes your comment seem way over the top. But not out of character.

Seriously? If I posted my login info for the NYT or something and it was the same as here, someone would randomly get it and recognize I was a Mefi member? It seems far less than 1:1 to me.
posted by yerfatma at 6:31 PM on January 6, 2005

It totally doesn't matter, but I personally believe him- the most compelling part is the innocuous, normal behavior for weeks, then the sudden breakdown. Why are so many people eager to believe that someone is so conniving as to act normal for months, then suddenly explode in the most obvious way possible? If he were that crazy, I doubt he could keep it together on this site as long as he did.

And as noted, the IP difference could be easily tracked down. It should be as easy as *resetting* the password, it doesn't actually have to be closed down.

There's one other possibility: I've noticed with our corporate proxies that I can never stay logged into metafilter, but far more intriguingly, I sometimes get a page with someone else's account signed in. I've never actually tried posting that way, but I actually suspect it would work.
