About Unconscious Ableism Around Mental Health
We have had previous Metas around ableism and conflicting needs here on the grey. And we've gotten better on how we discuss mental health. But as someone living with a mental health condition, it appears that many discussions that implicate mental health on Metafilter are still touched with a lot of stigma: I would like us to do better still. Content Warning: This Comment May Have Been Secretly Edited
Hello, folks. I would like to know 1) if it's common practice for mods to edit users' comments without any indication of a mod note, 2) when this practice began, and 3) if it's been disclosed as a community practice here. As a member of the mefi community it's certainly something I would like to provide feedback on! [more inside]

#USDefaultism and #otherDefaultisms
FPPs often say something like "New bird spotted in the EastWest Territory" or whatever and I have no clue of what they're talking about. [more inside]

Discussion of Kamala Harris’ positions on Palestine verboten?
A number of posts about the Harris campaign’s positions on the ongoing genocide in Palestine, and what steps people were or weren’t perceived to be taking in regards to that were deleted in the recent Harris campaign thread, with the mod suggestion to take it to a different, Palestine-focused thread instead. I disagree: numerous international threads have specifically requested not to be derailed by a focus on US politics, and questions about major campaign issues, even contentious ones like reproductive rights, have historically been appropriate for campaign threads. I understand there is ongoing mod decision making on this matter, but would like to seek community thoughts on this matter that might inform said decision making.

Acknowledging fears while avoiding doomsaying
I have a suggestion for community communication standards for posts such as the one on the shootings at Trump’s July 13 rally that make many of our fellow Mefites highly anxious. [more inside]

Previously on MetaFilter
Is it time to let go of "Previously?" Some topics have been explored, revisited, or detailed here many times, meaning that revisiting them in order to choose a "Previously" can be a time-consuming exercise. In 2024, MetaFilter tags, the search bar, and search engines provide many ways to access old site content.* Finding older relevant MetaFilter content is not the challenge that it was in 1999. On the other hand, MeFites do still comment favorably on things they have found in "Previously" links. [more inside]

confirming - occasional chatty posts on the Blue?
I seem to recall that chatty posts on the Blue were discouraged, but that that's changed (hence the rise of the weekly-ish Free Thread). Can we confirm policy and maybe get it in the FAQ? [more inside]

How to show and hide US political posts
Hi all, just a quick note about US political posts for those interested in them and those who are not. [more inside]

Is "please no name calling" a big ask?
I'm bringing this up in regards to this comment, amongst many others.
Is there a reason we can't just call Trump Trump? Is there a reason that we need to come up with some nickname like Lemon Husk for Elon Musk?
Even TFG is confusing as some think it means "That Fucking Guy" when originally it was a quote from Biden about "That Former Guy" (which is still relatively demeaning).
I think our community is better than silly name calling. I also think our community is getting so much better at accessibility that they would understand how, for some of us, jumbling letters in names just breaks or ability to interact with the content one posts. [more inside]
