Custome search doesn't search fanfare? October 7, 2014 7:23 AM Subscribe
Has anyone else run into a problem pulling up fanfare threads through site search or am I an idiot?
I was trying to find a Great British Bake Off thread, so I entered the name if the show into the search box on fanfare (mobile, new theme). Nothing came up; instead I got an error message screen and a prompt to use a custom Google search to search across sub-sites. But when I did so I noticed that none of the results were from fanfare.
This is weird, because there have definitely been a handful of threads about GBBO on fanfare. Are fanfare results really missing from the custom search? Anyone else run into this?

That happens to me when I'm not logged in but otherwise search seems fine.

Like poffin boffin says, search seems to work only when logged in. I had the same issues with searching the blue and the green.

I'M SO EXCITED to hear that there are threads on Great British Bake Off, I find that show to be a never-ending array of delights (and Paul Hollywood).

The main vexing search thing is that when you search from a subsite it only gives you results within that subsite but when you search from the blue it gives you results from everywhere.

Hm. Are you sure you spelled it right? I think the proper British spelling is "Ouff".

The FanFare search for logged-out users is broken—we'll get that fixed up. Searching the other subsites logged out does work.
...from the blue it gives you results from everywhere.
That's not what I'm seeing right now. If I search from MetaFilter I just see results from MetaFilter.

Ok, I see my mistake: it's that if you search from any subsite's search bar, and are in the posts or comments tab, you get that little dropdown menu which shows you results from all subsites. But if you're in the tag tab you don't get that menu, although it will show you results from all subsites it that exact tag appears elsewhere.

Yeah, the tag tab does show results from all subsites every time. You don't get potentially hundreds of pages of results like you do with posts and comments so we can show them all on one page.

With the new theme, I have noticed that the popular page (the combo of posts and comments) now brings you to the page for the subsite you are on instead of All Sites. Was that changed, or did I just not notice it before?

Yes, that is a change with the new theme. If you prefer the All Sites view you can either change the menu to All Sites on any Popular page or bookmark this page for quick access.
