Nevercalm deserves credit for anti-eponysterically advocating that his post, doubled five minutes later, be the one deleted. Mattamyn deserves credit, as usual, for not being blindly policy-bound.

Well, maybe, but not enough to start another thread about, I don't think. It wasn't like the post was some massive collection of carefully annotated obscure links painstakingly collected: it was a one-off link to an NYTimes article. Which in and of itself is not such a bad thing, perhaps, but people falling all over themselves that nevercalm didn't give a shit if that thread was deleted seems a bit excessive given the context.

Also: we're collectively doing entirely too much admin-upsucking lately, I reckon.

Also also: 'mattamyn' is a monicker much maligned by many.

I'm just calling out good behavior, is all. Cause since the thread is, naturally, deleted, nobody can see on the blue what a class act nevercalm is.

Not giving a shit, given the sensitivity of the average mefite, seems to me to be a pretty heroic act. And as far as admin-suckupness...guilty as charged, I guess. I think it's nice to keep a balance with the bitching.

And the nevercalm thread was made more entertaining by the near-meltdown antics of ND¢ the Untypeable.

And 'mattamyn' as an identifier for our two mods won't go away until they individally sig every deletion note to show who done the deleting. Until then, the Great Deleter isn't mathowie, it isn't jessamyn, it's "MATTAMYN". Sorry.

I don't understand why all the recent "positive callouts" in MeTa have been met with people saying "Great, but do we need ANOTHER thread abbouit." Jesus, people, have a little bit of heart.

So good on ya, L_L, and to nevercalm to0, for not running right here to whine about the deleted post and unspecific policy. We need more peace and love in this place as it is.

I totally react to rejection as well as Nevercalm... I just go offline for the weeping and gnashing of teeth.

That's more like it.

Also, pace Brittanie, a little goodwill goes a long way. Too much, it gets cloying, and one just wants to start dancing naked and oiled, dragging one's scrotum through the underbrush (anatomy permitting), and blowing shit up to see the pieces patter into the dust.

Still, good on ya, nevercalm. I mean it.

On preview: yes! Blood and fire and victory! Death to the non-BOTW(best-of-the-web)ers!

nevercalm has attacked the established order and deserves a metasmacking despite his or her best intentions. first is first. second is double. period. end of story. that is the way it has been and the way it shall be, forever and ever, amen (despite any and all unfairness, amenagain).

Does this mean I will never make cents as long as I don't have an option key?

I almost started another metatalk thread praising this one for being so positive, but I didn't want to disappoint Stavros.

If you saw the post before it got deleted, then, yes, this posicallout isn't too useful. But if you didn't, it's a nice pointing out of unusually calm and good behaviour that you otherwise wouldn't have seen. I've got no problems with people pointing out good behaviour.

I'm in print in favor of mattamyn. I won't go search for it, but there's a comment praising it somewhere in my history; though that comment has a certain whiff of earnest insanity about it, I stand behind the sentiment. I know that means next to nothing, but I speak for the mattamyn supporters, though they may only number one.

I prefer "disponysterical" over "anti-eponysterical."
posted by DevilsAdvocate at 9:20 AM on February 23, 2007

"Disponysterical" is more euphonius, but it unfortuantely mixes greek and latin roots, which is avoided by your better class of neologism.

Admittedly, the latin "dis-" is related to the greek "&delta&iota&sigma," but the greek wasn't used that way.
posted by longtime_lurker at 11:36 AM on February 23, 2007

Dammit. Live preview supported the greek characters. Ah, well, you get the point.
posted by longtime_lurker at 11:37 AM on February 23, 2007

δισ

You've got to be sure to get the trailing semicolons on those. I can't remember why Live Preview lies about these things at times, but it does, because it is a natural-born heartbreaker.

You know what? Screw this place. That fucking post was just as good as the one that stayed up. I've had enough of all your "MeFite" cutesy crap, your holier-than-thouness, your constant self-examination, your patting each other (and me) on the back, and the rest of it. I'm out. I'm NEVER posting here AGAIN.

Just kidding, obviously. I never thought I'd have the opportunity to melt down in my very own MeTa thread! But thanks for the callout, positive tho it may be.....

Your better class of neologism wouldn't be caught dead on MetaFilter. We use abominations like waitron here.

For the record, I always "read" ND¢'s name as a symbol, like that weird spirally thing Prince has. I've read the origin-of-the-name story a couple times and it doesn't stick in my head. There's no word there, it's just a picture.

Like anyone cares but at least I can fascinate myself.
