It must be the old UX instincts acting up in me, but I'm finally moved to ask about a feature of the beloved site which has been irking me for quite some time: the clipped engineerese in which the notice "7 new comments — show" is expressed. [more inside]

From M-x shell on the most current megathread: "Request to admins to just have weekly or even daily resets of the megathread. Not wait for a user to make them, just make them automatically and close previous ones. I don't need another recap of links every time. Each thread should just have a link to previous one at the top and link to next one at the bottom." [more inside]

In the floating menu that appears after scrolling a bit down the page, between the profile icon and the x, is a small downwards arrow that looks exactly like what many sites use as an "expand menu" button (for example, see "Menu v" on the exact same floating menu). It is not an expand menu button. It is a "proceed to bottom of page" button. [more inside]

Currently for a limited period of time if a new comment(s) are posted to a thread you have open one gets a notification "Foo new comments, show". My understanding is this feature is time limited because it loads the server by regularly checking for new comments since the last displayed (hence the reason one sometimes sees the notice "0 new comments, show"). After the limited time period one gets the message "No recent updates. Reload to check for new comments". Here's the pony request: Would it be possible to have a link in the last statement that manually runs the new comment check code and then displays an appropriate message if new comments are found? I'm excited to announce we're rolling out a long-requested feature: free-form text flagging, a new flagging option that will allow you to, when necessary, leave a brief note when you flag a post or comment. We've also tweaked the list of predefined flagging reasons to reduce the length of the list a bit. [more inside]

Pony request: When I'm reading MetaFilter at my desktop, the menu options at the top of the page include the podcast. But when I'm reading on my iPhone, the podcast isn't on the menu. Can we add it, please?

I find I'm reluctant to post any sort of "human relations" question because there's always going to be people who invidiously misrepresent or distort the question or otherwise show gratuitous ill-will. And even just coming here occasionally, I've noticed it consistently tends to be the same people. I understand that MetaTalk serves to give everyone a voice, and that's fine, but is there a way, or could a feature be added, where I personally "mute" selected commentators? Others can read their comments if they find them constructive and I could filter out what I perceive as malignant.

Hey! Help us test out a new feature: a flagging option to leave a short note in a free-form text field instead of choosing one of the pre-defined flagging reasons.
