Sometimes I browse MetaFilter while logged out. If I click Log In to comment and fill out the form, I get redirected to the main page. Usually my goal is to return to the post I was originally on. Right now that means a back-back-refresh. Thoughts on changing this? [more inside]

I'm 99.9% sure that there's no practical way to get the user base to stop linking to sites that have autoplay video embedded in them, but as a techno-doof, I'm wondering if there's any kind of, I don't know, pass-through or something that can generate URLs that set autoplaying videos to not play? Like an appended bit of code along with all the tracking kerfuffle on the URL? Failing that, any recommendations for video autoplay blockers for Chrome that actually work would be most welcome. My test page (which all the autoplay blockers fail at blocking autoplay on) is this one, which was linked from this post.

Not having updated my preferences for a while, I was a little taken aback when posting a comment today that I had somehow gone back in time two hours. I then realised it was the whole Australia having moved onto DST while the US has moved off it thing. So a small pony request: instead of having to manually adjust the time offset in terms of +/– hours from the server time, would it be possible to choose a particular time zone, so that it would automatically change along with local changes such as daylight savings? On the Recent Activity page, where it says "X Comments. Y since your most recent comment." Could it also say "Most recent: Z time ago." or somesuch? [more inside]

Can metafilter force https? It looks like this as discussed a few times, the last being was just over a year ago. A couple specific things I find troubling:

• When I navigate to https://ask.metafilter.com, or any other metafilter site, it removes the https and takes me back to http
• Forms (except for login) seem to be submitted via http POST (even anonymous asks)

This is a grim, dispiriting pony, but would it be useful to have a sidebar listing most recent threads for various ongoing issues? We have that for US politics but things being as they are of late, should we open that up and also point to the most recent sexual harassment/assault threads, the most recent mass shooting threads, etc.?
