One link articles from popular periodicals

What's up with all of the one link articles from popular periodicals?

I think people thought they were interesting and thus posted them to metafilter.

Just for my edification, are the links on the e and l that go nowhere supposed to go to posts by semmi too. I'm just curious if we're calling out a particular person or a particular style here.

Looking through semmi's history, semmi does seem to post an awful lot of New York Times/New Yorker threads. Is this a callout, or just a complaint?

I posted because I keep seeing single links to The New Yorker and New York Times articles every week. I realized that many were being posted by the same person. I think semmi's posts are interesting, and that is probably why those pieces were chosen for publication. Maybe I am sensitive to this because I subscribe to The New Yorker, but I think posts are better when you talk about art, for example, link to the museum or an online gallery of the exhibited works. When the entire post is copied and pasted from the article, it doesn't add value to the post. Am I the only person bothered by this?

In my humble opinion, I think the links maybe could've used some more effort (read: links) in fleshing out a topic or idea. Worthwhile of a MeTa? Probably not.

It bugs me, too. If they were really extraordinary, I wouldn't mind, but I don't really need a digest of New York publications via MeFi.

See, it's that "need" part that bugs me. If you "need" Metafilter to be to your specs, then I humbly suggest that your problem lies deeply within you.

Heck no, Wulfgar! -- there are a whole lot of "best of the web" things that don't really appeal to me personally, but that's where the not-clicking-on-the-links thing comes in. These, however, are not best of the web IMHO, and given the sort of long pattern of posting, I have to agree with Frank Grimes.

what's with the downgrading of "one link" posts? Originally pretty much all posts were "one link", not these theme posts where people google for a bunch of sites that are related. IMO, it's better to link one good article than 4 mediocre overviews. Multiple links can certainly be cool, but not for their own sake (ie, each link should be worthy of being a post itself, not added to fatten up the underachieving link).

Well, that would do it, wouldn't it? I'm pretty sick of all the callouts by people who happen to be regular readers of periodical X or website Y and therefore want to deny all other MeFi members links to those places.

Also, what mdn said.
