Metafilter ranks third when using 'weblog' as a search term in Google at the moment. Worth celebrating?
Yawn. Wake me up when we're number one.
Although I find it odd that the unofficial Google Weblog has that spot right now.

Grouse - exactly my thoughts. But then again, it *must* be the most highly linked weblog on the seven internets, yes?

I just thought it fun than Mefi was the top site that isn't about weblogs or Google specifically. Pretty good going.

huh, crazy. The Google blog's been first for the past couple years, before that I think weblogs.com was #1. I had no idea MetaFilter was anywhere near the top.
Shouldn't BoingBoing come up first? It's pretty much the prototypical weblog and most likely has the highest readership already.

I wonder how many of the new signups that covers.

This, I'd say, is somewhat less cause for celebration.

So, does our number three status include the paid placement? 'Cuz MeFi is showing up at number two for me.

The high placement of both the "Google Weblog" and "Metafilter | Community Weblog" is due to the search text weblog being found in the title tags of both pages, which is uncommon. When my blog was active, my title tag was "lake effect: a weblog", which helped it place highly as well.

I think Google's poor showing when you search for search engine (5) or search (7) is a pretty good argument against Google gaming their own system.

Not that it has anything to do with anything, but it's pretty funny how many people type URLs into global search engines. On any breaking news day, thousands of them type www.cnn.com into Google.

That's something my grandmother does because she doesn't know how to work the address bar. All she knows is Google.

I watch this page quiet often as my site The Weblog Review is always on the top 10 results page. The Google weblog has been atop since the first month they came out. Metafilter has been up there numerous times as well as awsd.com's weblog script for checking your stats. Other top mentions in the past were Doc's Weblog and um well now I can't find it as it isn't in the top 100 results. Mefi is always in the top 10, has been, and probably will be for a long time.
