Can I link to Geocities? July 26, 2004 8:13 PM   Subscribe

If I have found a website that I think is interesting and I'd like to share it with MeFi... but it is a geocities page that will be useless after the bandwidth limit is hit, what is the protocol? Simply not post it? Post it and let the bandwidth chips fall where they may? Advice on proper etiquette appreciated!

If Google has a cache of it, linking that is usually your best move.

While Google does have a cache, the home page is just an intro that leads to three sub-pages, which themselves lead to numerous other pages. It would be an unweildy post to link all these sub-pages via the google cache. But these subpages are precisely where the sweet stuff is. I suppose the bandwidth problem becomes less and less of an issue as the number of links increases (since presumably fewer and fewer will continue exploring.) But the central question remains since hitting bandwidth limits on these pages is a distinct possibilty.

post it late at night or on a slow day?

Post a riddle to its actual URL, perhaps requiring some abstract mathematical discipline? Post it as a "Bush-bad" style newsfilter flamebait - no one ever clicks on those links, they just get straight to the yelling... post one section of the link to axeme, one to meta & one to the blue, only the truly dedicated will visit...

As far as I know, Freecache doesn't work for websites, dhartung, only individual large files.
