Cat Pajama-jam Party! October 19, 2018 2:18 PM Subscribe
Such an event falls well inside our area of expertise.
You may have seen freethefeet’s post about the accidental invite to a Cat Pajama-Jam. BlueHorse suggested a Friday MetaTalk. So, I'd like to see your best cats in pajamas photos! Or your cookie recipes! Or your cat-themed pajamas! Or this adorable picture of cortex!

I have mentioned this to you on Instagram but I sort of can't believe that cortex, you and me all wound up buying and wearing very similar pajamas within what seems to be hours of each other.

OK, I have no such photos, but here are cats I saw recently. I also saw a black kitten on my patio yesterday, but when I went out to pet it, it ran away.
Today I made a reservation for this weekend to go to a cat café with friends and be surrounded by kitties for a whole hour. I've never been there. This is gonna be great.

Bet those pajamas would fit into a scanner, cortex. Still wouldn't answer the question of why, but at least we'd finally know how.

Yeah, I just got in a very cat pajama-jam mood earlier this week, for whatever reason. Here are my snek pajamas.
And here are Boaty McBoatface's bunny pajamas.
I've never been to a cat cafe, but I've heard that the one nearest to me is closing! So I'd better go check it out fast, while there's still cats.

How do you put a cat into pajamas without putting yourself into the ER?

I have beach pyjamas. And half-finished kitchen pyjamas. Even hostess pyjamas. But no cat pyjamas.
How sad.

My favorite meal/recipe:
Open frig
Grab can of beer
Open can of beer
Take sip from can of beer (to make sure).
Open cupboard.
Grab bag of Trader Joe's Ghost Pepper Potato Chips
Open bag of Trader Joe's Ghost Pepper Potato Chips.
Grab a handful of Trader Joe's Ghost Pepper Potato Chips.
Eat said handful of Trader Joe's Ghost Pepper Potato Chips.
Now here is where it gets a little more complicated because you have to alternate between the chips and the beer.
Take huge swig of can of beer
Feel emboldened to eat more spicy Trader Joe's Ghost Pepper Potato Chips.
Do so.
Uh oh. More beer.
Repeat this cycle until you run out of cans of beer and/or Trader Joe's Ghost Pepper Potato Chips.
Tell SO when they come over that you are not hungry for dinner for some reason. Quickly take out the garbage and the recycling to hide the evidence.

I opened my cupboard, but there were no potato chips. Do I have to be wearing animal pajamas to make this recipe?

My favorite meal/recipe:
August West, are you me?
Do you ever substitute a pint of ice cream for the chips? I highly recommend it.

I tried that recipe, but substituted Trader Joe's Sriracha Waffle Chips for the Ghost Pepper chips. Pleased to report that it worked perfectly.

There are definitely variations to and substitutes for the ingredients. I have even heard of people that leave out the chips (or ice cream) altogether. Just cans o beer. I got the recipe from my grandfather on my mother's side.

Oh wow! I threw in the cat pyjama link as an after-thought, the first video I found was the cat care-taker. Who knew that it would capture the imagination- except that it's cats, pyjamas, cookies, email blunder, and a tiny scrap of politics, on metafilter, so...
I'm currently trying to get through the enormous pile of marking left over from term 3, after a lovely late morning admiring our grapevine. We have put the vine on a trellis after it tried to take over the back yard last year. It's got teeny-tiny grapes on it, which is exciting, but I don't think we'll actually get much fruit from it- unless we are uncharacteristically motivated and net the fruit from the birds.
I baked peanut butter biscuits/cookies the other night for the first time in a while (recipe). I accidentally melted the butter instead of softening it to room temperature so they've turned out like delicious peanutty shortbreads. They are very moreish!

My pjs are invisible and the last time I posted pictures of them I got in trouble and ended up on some kind o flist.
My roommate's cat (yes, that one, the one that brought me a snow covered and very live finch for Christmas) has finally been let out of the house to roam her new and much larger domain and it took her about, oh, fifteen minutes to go full on forest/ranch cat, hawks and coyotes and bobcats and all.
For about two days I was crashing in the main house and she glommed on to me and my sleeping bag and did a thing she never, ever does, which is crawl under/into the sleeping bag to hide. If I got up or rolled over and accidentally uncovered her she'd just burrow back under the covers.
This isn't her first time living in the woods so she'll be fine. She's very stout and despite the fact that she generally never moves faster than a slow saunter, I've seen her move so fast in pursuit of large spiders and mice that she's more wave than particle and is possibly red-shifting. The first time I saw her actually move it took my breath away and made me re-think what I knew about physics, because up until that point she mainly moved not very much at all.
So today she'd been out for a few hours, then jumped up into my lap when I was sitting outside. As I started petting and scritching her her exceptionally thick, floofy fur dumped about a cup and a half of sand, pollen, fern spores and random burrs into my lap. "Oh my God, cat, you're so dirty! What the heck have you been up to?" "Miao?" "Yeah, I told you you'd like it out here. Sheesh, you have half the foxtails on the property stuck in your pelt!" "Mwow!"
Good kitty.

The Underpants Monster: "...
We can stay up all night and watch Barry's Cat's Pajamas on Channel 2."
That video is at once, insane, endearing, confusing and frustrating. I loved it. Start with the music overlay. Then Barry smoking his cigarette and drinking a cup of coffee. Then realize they came up with the idea that to get viewers in the overnight hours, they would pay them. Kat Kash. Watch the movie and at the end of it we will ask a simple question and call in and viola, a few hundred bucks(?)
The news team was going to be standing by all night long in case of breaking news. Add to the facts that my ex is from Buffalo and Penny Williams on News Center 2 is nostalgically both comforting and discomforting in a "I love Buffalo" sort of way*. All this in a 47 second clip.
*I really do love Buffalo. Tried to get my ex to move there but she mumbled something about not being within 500 miles of her parents and besides, her parents she claimed liked me more than her.

I just realized it's probably been ten years since I sewed matching mother/daughter pajamas and a throw blanket from this Hello City Cowboy fleece. The jam-jams were not perfect but surprisingly wearable, given that it was my first attempt to ever sew garments. But once was enough--I think I realized I didn't have the patience to enjoy that kind of crafting, along with my freelance career was ramping up and leaving me less free time. Both pairs of jam-jams and the sewing machine are no longer with me, but I still have the throw blanket. So that's my cat pajama story.

Kitty-flannel and mother-daughter cat-cowboy pajamas- I love it! My favorite pajama pants are just some simple fleece pants with space frogs on them, they're pretty much the best. And the Mountain Floofermonsters are amazing.
I neglected to share Boaty with her cookies. I noticed some new ghirardelli caramel chips at the store, so I'd been looking for an excuse to make a batch of chocolate chip cookies with caramel. You'll find this surprising, but they are delicious. I ran short on brown sugar, but had some turbinado sugar around so I made up the difference with that, which has added a nice crunch.
