Related to the Phantom Time Conspiracy, but different... January 6, 2017 1:41 PM Subscribe
Within the last few months, there were a couple of posts on The Blue about a combined speculative fiction/conspiracy theory that we as a society have collectively forgotten (or had our memories erased of) a number of years -- perhaps a decade -- between the 1980s and 1990s? I recall it referring to an "N Decade" or the "19N0s," but MeFi searches along these lines have come up empty.
i've heard this referred to as the 19a0s. One post with that tag

Oh what a pity - this could have been the perfect MetaTalk post.

There's the apparently-never-existed Sinbad movie Shazaam.

Not quite the same thing but this alternate-history 90s post is one of my favorite MetaFilter threads of all time

This is my first encounter with "a combined speculative fiction/conspiracy theory that we as a society have collectively forgotten...a number of years". Closest thing recently in the blue was that "Shazaam" post mentioned by LobsterMitten, which seems to have a mighty small sample of 'we who have collectively forgotten' something (or in their case, imagined to be present, not missing).

Oh god that alternate 90's thread pbo linked above. I am screaming with laughter at that listicle.
What's freaky, though -- and by freaky I mean recursive -- is apparently I read that whole thread, because there are little minuses where there should be little pluses but I HAVE NO MEMORY OF IT WHATSOEVER.

This wasn't within the last few months, but I was immediately reminded of a 2011 BoingBoing called the Mixtape of the Lost Decade. Here's the MeFi post about it.

It seems seems like everyone has forgotten *that* thread. Sorry...

Chan Koonchung's novel The Fat Years speculates that February 2011 didn't exist. Any posts about that would have been in 2011 when it was published in English.
