It's November 1st, do you know where your podcast is? It's, uh. It's right here. Me and Jess chatter about voting, and Halloween costumes (oh man you all have great Halloween costumes again!), and all sorts of little MetaFilter stuff we liked recently. This episode covers Oct 5th through Nov 1st and runs just about 80 minutes.

It's not quite enough for a metatalk post of its own, so I'm sneaking it in here: I'd like to propose this [twitter link] as the official comic strip of ask metafilter.

Wow. Wow. I have been trying to be really conscious of not clogging up the staff channels too much with my Cubs fandom all postseason but CLEARLY I AM NOT STANNING ENOUGH if cortex doesn't even know what game we're on!
Bigger Chicago contingent than Cleveland contingent in the fanfare thread but we're all united in our love of baseball, hatred of Joe Buck, and suspicion of the current strike zone situation, so it's a fun place to watch! (Especially if, like me, you can't get to a game watch because of small children and school night bedtimes.)

Partway through and enjoying (as ever) the podcast; it's good to listen to especially during this changing of the seasons.

On a production note, I'm glad we actually wrote down the "well, there's your episode title" phrase when it came up because it meant that by the time I got the thing posted an hour later I had forgotten the context entirely. It's more entertaining for me that way and keeps me from having to scrub through the final mix looking for something to reference.

Hey, that's two in a row for me!
I really do want to thank everyone who took the time to answer my T-Shirt question. I was aware that women had to consider a lot more than I do when buying shirts, but I was not aware just how much more. I can see why bands with limited merch space often ignore women sizing - as jessamyn said, there's just so much variation. It's honestly a bit terrifying as I'm operating on a hobbyist level so plunking down a chunk of change for things that won't move is a no-go.
For the time being, I've retreated to safe waters - I should have a lapel pin ready for sale in the next two weeks or so and am planning on doing a run of tote bags. I'm not giving up on womens sizing - I uploaded some designs to TeeRepublic, a print on demand service, and will order some shirts to test. If you'd like to beta test as well, you can find them here.

My childhood town sued to NOT schedule trick or treat. It does now. Even in Pennsylvania there are regional differences. I was born on Halloween, so I'm pretty well versed on this whole thing.

TIL that FO-sahy may also be pronounced FO-kahy.
Also, that's not a spider dog. This is a spider dog.

I am enjoying this window into a past era! The AAGH!s and UUGHs of Jessamyn reacting to the porn neural net output is taking me back to better times. I'm glad I didn't get to the podcast until today.

Same here. I really needed to hear some friendly people talking about friendly things, and I thought, "Oh, I know -- I'll listen to cortex and jessamyn talking" and pressed play on this (episode twelfty-two, btw). It had the added bonus of temporarily letting me pretend it was still November 1st. Also it was really nice to hear you talk about getting to spend some time with mathowie again, jessamyn.
Thanks to you, and thanks to ignignokt for commenting because it reminded me that I could still post in here.

Feels like a year ago, honestly. I was really (clearly from the recording I think) looking forward to our first post-election show, and in a very real sense I still am and maybe even more so, but boy howdy is it a different world in a lot of ways from what I was expecting.
I'm maybe more than ever into the idea of doing up a positive call-in segment but it's been a lot harder the last few days to think of what exactly that should be than I thought it would be.

I think a positive call-in segment would be great, cortex. A long time ago, I had the idea of making a positive podcast where I talked to various friends about various positive things. Such as, positive things that happened to us, or tips to be or stay positive or be kind to others. A friend and I actually test-recorded something, but I unfortunately never got around to getting a regular thing going.
So that's a long way of leading into: how about a call-in segment where people share a story related to MeFi that's about kindness, or something else where they felt uplifted, or helped get them through the morning, or found solace or a sense of purpose, etc? As for "related to MeFi", it could be a comment, or post, or something that happened at a meetup, and so on. And it wouldn't necessarily have to be something that happened this month. My 2c.

Grown-ups drinking wine party not Babadook party, Babadook party not grown-ups drinking wine party! Because I came across this while transcribing and hadn't seen the tweets referenced. And it's probably worth seeing again.
