Trying to track down an FPP about an adventure game May 27, 2014 11:24 AM Subscribe
I remember reading a post here about an adventure game where the primary mechanic was using a tool that allowed you to change objects by altering a single letter in the word. For a (bad) example, if you have a nun figurine in your inventory, you would change the N to a G and get a gun figurine, which you could then use to hold up a bank. That's not an exact example, but sort of what the gameplay was like. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
Nope. It was single player.

Word Realms has a single player mode - it's the only way I play it.

Although World Realms seems interesting, it wasn't that.

This game is absolutely amazing and if you have not played it I cannot recommend it highly enough.

(What is it about our silly human brains where you can remember some dumb little slight from 20 years ago but yet don't constantly remember things that you love.)

It's an Emily Short game?!
Finding this out is even better than the brief moment when I hoped I had the answer!

You should check out Earl Grey, an IF from a few years back by aparrish and Rob Dubbin -- which pretty much exactly matches your description. (That same aparrish was recently written up by our favorite Washington Post tech writer Caitlin Dewey here!)

Right, so this sounds cool. As someone who has never played something like this before, how the hell do I open the file? The programs linked on Short's site aren't working for this file type or have forbidden me access to download.

This reminded me of a very enjoyable short story: The Study of Anglophysics.

That's also at least one of the games in the text adventure Nord and Bert Couldn't Make Heads or Tails of It
