Bug with favorites and "load recent comments" May 26, 2014 2:05 PM Subscribe
I'm seeing a bug while favoriting comments that've been loaded through the "recent comments" auto-loader. If I add an auto-loaded comment to my favorites, all the loaded comments vanish once the favorite's been added. It seems to occur while the site's loading up the new favorite count — I get a brief "adding favorite" dialogue, and then, boop, all gone! This is occurring on Google Chrome on OS X; I'm not sure if anybody else is getting this, but I've tried this on multiple subsites and it's a recurring and consistent bug.
I don't have a JavaScript blocker enabled. AdBlock doesn't disable JS, does it?

I disabled CommentBlocker and that seemed to fix it. Looks like this one was on my end. Thanks for the suggestion, NAID!

yeah as a general note any extension that interferes with how a page loads can mess up a site like metafilter even if you are not sure why/how. A while ago I lost the favourites button on metafilter and the reply button on another site and couldn't figure out why until totally reset my mac and realised some tool that was meant to block 3rd party cookies was blocking those buttons for some reason.

Browser extensions/add-ons and Greasemonkey scripts can make diagnosing problems difficult. We recommend disabling them as you're troubleshooting site problems, but it's often tough to remember that you've even installed something that could be rewriting pieces of the page.

You're using Chrome; unless you've configured it otherwise, using Incognito Mode will turn off all extensions (in Incognito Mode, only). I use it for testing the "is it an extension bug?" hypothesis all the time.
