I think this deletion as a double was a bad call.
The last time we had a post on the subject was in 2006, and plenty of members have joined up since then who probably weren't around then to see the original post.
Furthermore, the link on the previous, (http://www.losanjealous.com/nfc/) seems to be depreciated now, as it automatically redirects to Deezil's link (http://www.nietzschefamilycircus.com/).
And while I can't easily tell by looking if there have been new comics added, the site has been updated for functionality in the last 7 years. The first post in the previous thread was the poster complaining that there was no easy way to share your favorites, and now each comic has its own share link.
So unless I'm reading this FAQ entry wrong, the only criteria not met was the lack of linking to the previous thread. It's been "a few years", the site has undergone at least some updating since then, and the URL is new.

Ok, reading the older thread, it looks like there was a way to share favorites, but I still feel we could look at this one with fresh eyes.

This is a good point. Given an excess of history, no thread could be started. Metafilter belongs to the active posters; it belongs to the member who fights for a good, strong post.

I missed the double (since I didn't go back far enough), but I have no dog in the fight whether this goes back up or not.

There are 167 comics and 275 quotes in the database. I know that has no bearing on the deletion but I figured it out trying to decide if new content was being added and then realized it didn't really matter but still had these facts and really wanted to share.

As sucky as metatalk has been lately, I say throw the masses a bone, undelete the thread, close this up, and turn the queue back on. Or, give us Barabbas. As mods it's your choice.

It's not a "post on the subject," it's the url and literally nothing else. I'd be happy if all those type of posts got axed, whether they were doubles or not.
If you want a better chance at having a "semi-double" stand, maybe add another link, or at least another word?

Freedom is the will to be responsible for ourselves. It is to preserve the distance which separates us from other men. To grow more indifferent to hardship, to severity, to privation, and even to life itself. HTH.

I agree. Bad deletion.
It is way better than that Library of Babel post. That post is flat. FLAT. There was not enough set-up, and now has broken links. If someone didn't know two shits who Borges is or the story about the Library of Babel, that post wouldn't have helped them figure it out at all.
So I say swap 'em.

As a sort of connoisseur of comics mashups, I'm a big fan of NFC (though a bigger fan of the defunct Dysfunctional Family Circus) but it really is as far as I know the same old NFC we saw before and have seen mentioned since on occasion in threads.
A post about NFC and other comics mashup/deconstruction efforts that was more than just a repeat I think would be more defensible and more interesting; a double's a double and while we make exceptions for some stuff it being old but not different isn't one of the really common ones. Certainly "bad delete" seems like a pretty strong call on what is, in fact, pretty much a textbook double deletion.

But you very old doubles will not have to die
If you make yourselves interesting! So come on, now, and TRY!

eh usually i complain about deletions, but its an old single link that you've either seen or you havne't. i kinda assume that all the old classic humor sites are already archived here, like Garfield Minus Garfield
though what about a comic parody site that was previously deleted but can be added again with more context?
