This would have been even cooler if Matt himself had done the deletion.

See, kids? No one is above the law!

That's gotta be some kind of record. Nearly 100 comments in 30 minutes on a deleted post.

So this is why it would be neat if we could still favorite deleted posts. Because I know that three years from now I will want to link to this, and how the heck am I ever going to find it otherwise?

Also, awesome.

I searched for this before I posted it, but I didn't know that blogspot has a mirror for every blogspot site for localized countries. So my post was to the blogspot.co.uk domain but the original blogspot.com domain was posted previously. taz said when she searches locally in Greece, the blogspot results are always blogspot.co.gr or whatever they use there.

It's weird that a company that does search and hates duplicated content and promotes the use of a canonical tag on pages would have tens of millions of duplicated pages run through all these domains. I should ask someone at Google why they do this.

Please don't. They might kill off blogspot if you bring it to their attention.

I should ask someone at Google why they do this.

It should just redirect you to the canonical URL if you try to use an alternate TLD. Having a dozen active URLs for every blogspot site seems very odd to me.

It would have been better still if Matt posted the MeTa thread to bitch about the deletion.

Yes, the notion of blogspot.nl is ridiculous. It's like they're treating "The Netherlands" as worth paying attention to.

Localized blogspot addresses is all about being able to take down a blogspot.co.fr post when the French government demands it (for example) but still keep the post up in practise. See here. It's a good thing. And before someone says it, ignoring the government (or the courts) of a country in which you do business isn't really an option.

If it does, I hope the mods just use a speak and spell wav whenever they ought to be saying your name.

taz said when she searches locally in Greece, the blogspot results are always blogspot.co.gr or whatever they use there.

It's annoying indeed, because when Blogger sees that I'm coming from Korea, all the chrome they throw up for logging in and interacting with Blogger sites is in Korean, with no apparent way to change it. They used to do that for Gmail and lots of other Google properties, too, but most of them have gotten marginally better at that since.

I understand it's meant to be a convenience, as the vast majority of people coming from Korean IPs will be Korean speakers, but it's a pain in the ass for those of us who aren't, or don't want a Korean-language interface. I assume it's the same for other countries as well.

boo_radley, is there a one-trick-pony web site (like sadtrombone.com) that will make WAVs in a Speak'N'Spell voice? If there isn't, I would be pleased to see someone make one.
