I'm calling out MartinWisse

For having now, with "STARK MADE HULK BIG PHONE!!!", made 100 awesome posts for Euro Mefites to love as well as North Americans to wake up to and making us all look bad by comparison.

Check out the infodumpster for a decent run down of greatest hits. Some of my favorites have been,

I am having inappropriate laugh times thanks to the princess thread:
"Oh, [a party clown] was once hired for a bachelor party. They didn't want him to do anything weird, just they wanted to get shitfaced drunk with a clown. He ended up getting hammered and making balloon animals for the strippers. "

Am I weird for thinking that this would be hilariously fun?

Yay! Good callout, blasdelb.

Before Martin showed up, my Netherlands-related posting strategy went roughly as follows:

1) Find something Dutch that Mefites might like
2) Wait a couple of days because lazy
3) Post!

Now step three is usually pre-empted by the discovery that Martin has already posted it. So I just amended the whole thing to

1) Find something Dutch that Mefites might like
2) Wait for Martin to post it because lazy

In summary, Martin is stealing my thoughts and I don't like work.

They didn't want him to do anything weird, just they wanted to get shitfaced drunk with a clown

♫ " ... the beers of a clown ..." ♫

Actually, that sounds like just the circumstance I'd need to unburden myself of all my clown-related rage and fear.

I heart MartinWisse. Was it he who wrote the comment about the skating festival in the Netherlands? Despite years of being told here that one should never attempt to skate on frozen water, it made me want to head over and try it.

Some shameful part of me misses real call-outs/flame-outs -- which were once a weekly occurrence, but have become a more-or-less extinct breed on MeTa, post-2008.

Another part of me realizes that the community and the (honestly pretty peerless) moderation has found ways to transcend these tawdry vestiges of old message-board culture, and that this is a good thing.

Then a third part of me doubts that second part, and thinks that we've sacrificed something vital (or at least affirming... or possibly just "entertaining") for the sake of ersatz, seething "harmony".

I'm conflicted, to say the least. But more than anything I'm glad that we've created something that I and many others really, really value; in time I guess I can create an acceptable justification for these and almost any other concessions we've made along the way.

Excellent callout Blasdelb! I totally agree. I know that when MartinWisse posts a link or comment it will be a good one.
posted by hurdy gurdy girl at 10:37 PM on January 15, 2013

I was sure this was going to be another complaint about "does what it says on the tin". I hate it when a MeTa post defies my expectations by not being pointlessly and effortfully bitchy about precisely nothing.

No, not hate. The other thing.

Close, but I was just trying to find a twist-tie. I keep my old glassfightin' gloves in a coffee can in the garage, like a sensible adult.

Go to Den Haag instead, as that's where you have the true Indo population and look for small tokos tucked away in shopping malls. In Amsterdam, most Indonesian restaurants, where they aren't Dutchified Chinese/Indonesian restaurants, cater to the Surinam-Indo tastes.

Okay, let me ask two uninitiated* questions here. Does the slight glimmer happen before the Westvleteren12 or after? And are there any morphic fields involved at all (for instance, does MartinWisse need to drink a Trappisten too for others to be able to glimpse him in their peripheral vision when meeting up, say, in Kentucky)?

*Since my profile page sadly generates the following message "There are no other MetaFilter members nearby, sorry," I've so far missed out on the meetups experience.
