I like jessamyn's eponymous song idea but I do not think I am a good candidate for such a thing.

Half-wish I hadn't listened to this, now. Because I just know, with dread, that when finally meeting Jessamyn I will mess this up and blurt out some variation of "Ah, you must be Specimen West ... doh!"

Ironically, insomniacally listening to the Ask MeFi posts part right now, and a colleague emails me an Ye Gods have you seen this on Ask Yahoo? link. From two years ago (so, no moderation of medically dangerous suggestions on that site).

Oh yeah. I can talk about Music a bit.
The first draft of Metafilter Music came up early in the podcast. It launched in 2003:
If you look at the Wayback Machine, there's an incomplete archived version, showing literally dozens of posted songs.
The second and current version of Music got started in 2006, before I joined. In 2010, it crossed the 5000-song milestone! Today, it's over 6600 songs.
I have more personal stuff to write about Music, but it's late and it feels a bit spammy / self-promotional, so it can wait until morning.

mathowie: Ok, I guess if anyone is interested in putting their music on this site, you'll need to create two bitrates for your MP3 files, one at 128kbps, the other at something more modem friendly, like I suppose 56kbps.It started breaking in 2005, and it went away completely later that year.
Toss all your mp3s into a zip file, put them on a server somewhere, then email me where I can download them.

Sometimes Metafilter seems too big to really think of it as my online community. Then, other times, there's something like this that makes feel like we're all old friends who haven't seen each other in a while but when we do we'll have so much to catch up on. Except we'll skip that part and go straight to the drinks and laughs.

The thing about the harpsichord is it is basically a bunch of tiny elves each playing a carefully tuned triangle but with no sense of dynamics; the elves just give their respective little triangles a hearty WHAP with their tiny elf stick when prodded by the motion of the key they're standing on.
Which has its uses, but.

Fun music fact: The Bjork song My Spine is in fact what Bjork's spine sounds like when played by tiny icelandic elves.

Just finished off the transcription on Fanscribed. I would like to note that transcribing the section on Infinite Jukebox was amusingly meta, since hitting the button to skip back five seconds would often skip back to an earlier repeat of Jessamyn singing the same thing. Indeed, that whole section made me quite happy, what with mathowie, jessamyn and cortex all bursting into song at various points!
