they say the Ragnarok Bell is the last thing a Viking hears before perishing in the cold embrace of the world sea.

Yeah, I'm pretty much infamous at the holidays for sending PST's song around to the members of women's choirs at work. I still listen to it, though. Sometimes on repeat. Usually but not always before xmas.

It has become part of the rotation of "normal" Christmas music chez biscotti/xenophobe. As in, not something we acknowledge as a novelty song... it's just Christmas music.
In the car, I sometimes sing my own version along with it, which I call simply "Bell."

Yes Yes Yes! I set out to find this just a few days ago and all I came up with was the bizarre fucking insanity that is Nylon's Ringle Bock Jell. But I knew this existed and I didn't just hallucinate hearing it on the Christmas podcast two years ago.
As a bonus, going back to get that link just now I got to hear what it sounds like when the two play simultaneously. I dare you.

Off topic perhaps, but could OP in that 2004 thread have been thinking of the scene in Clue where Christopher Lloyd, Madeline Kahn et al attempt to hide murder victims from a curious cop by pretending to make out with their lifeless bodies? I believe Rockin Around the Christmas Tree is playing in the background. Could be wrong, can't find the clip online to check.
It's funnier than it sounds.

No, that song is Shboom. I can't find a movie clip either, but here's a clip from a local theatre renactment!
I knew all the time I spent watching local theatre versions of Clue and some Clue musical the other day wasn't a waste!

Would PST's comment with a link to that mp3 be deleted for being a non-answer if it were a response to an AskMe thread written today?

Good question crunchland. I only noticed on revisiting it that it was an AskMe that more or less got hijacked by a ridiculously awesome song, turning into an appreciation thread.

If it were done today it'd be perfect for a post to Music. Kind of a whole different world compared to 2004.

I have it on good authority that if it isn't played by at least a hundred MeFites every midwinter, the sun doesn't return in spring.
Either way, though, it will be our victory over the sun.

I think you could do a really good non-seasonal version of this titled Scissors Rock Paper. You could use it to decide stuff based on when the participants stop singing.
