This podcast covers the tail end of October as well as November. We sort of steered clear of anything from December for the next podcast that will recap the Awesome Post Contest. This one was run high and tight, only at an hour and with no edits during the time we talked.

I missed the song "Dam' by platinum the first time around. And, well, dam if I wasn't moved. Great production as well.

No reason, we recorded it this morning [afternoon for me], we were just in good moods and maybe mathowie had someplace to be? I apologize in advance for the number of times I say "super."

Omg the Rushmore Handjob montage is my favorite Youtube video of all time! I lose it at the exact same point every time- when Bucchan says, "Got any good handjobs lately?"

It would be pretty awesome of this podcast was more of an every other week thing instead of a once a month thing.

Actually could the mods just follow me around all day having nerdy conversations so I can listen while I buy kumquats and file invoices and whatever? That would be ideal.

I often think we should have a few smaller podcasts. This one was nice in that it was quick, not a lot of editing needed to happen, and we had a lot to talk about, and we were all in good moods. I find that for me, in this age of distributed attention, sitting down to have one conversation for an hour is really an unusual thing. There's actually one part of the podcast where I'm writing someone an email [who was complaining about something that needed, I felt, an immediate response] and listening back it's super clear that I'm MIA for a minute or two. I think it's why I don't like the phone that much generally, though podcasting is always fun, I find monotasking dreadfully dull and I always feel itchy that I'm not doing the other stuff I need to be doing. I don't at all get this feeling when I'm out walking in the woods or out for a drive, so it's got something to do with being near my computer but not really using it.

So it seems that next time the pod mods meet in real life they should record a podcast while they're taking a stroll in the woods or during a drive.

cortex, I love the square foot project photos. Especially the ones where the thing you're photographing juts out of the frame. Also, the cats that look like they're Sharks or Jets or something, and are about to gang up on you to get off of their turf.

I'm ashamed to say that, as a transplant from the midwest to the east coast at one point, I totally had to relearn how to say 'bagel' properly.

Pony request - I recently started to use Instacast HD to listen to podcasts - which makes show notes superuseful by giving you them alongside the podcast in the apron your iPad (see screenshots). Currently the shownotes just say "see notes at podcast.metafilter.com" - which is not much use. :( - it would be great if the link lists could be added to the shownotes so that instacast could display rich show notes. (like it does for 5by5 podcasts for example.)

spammers like to sneak in links to old blog posts to up their chance of a) improving page rank, but also b) not be caught.
It sounds like metafilter has an admin view to keep an eye on people posting to really old askme threads to make sure nothing hinky is going on since the standard flagging won't work since old threads get more computer eyeballs then people eyeballs.

Exactly. I think the tool is basically "Show us comments where the last comment in a thread was more than 30 days after the comment before it." It's interesting because it's a combination of follow-ups [totally okay] and spammers [totally not] so it's my emotional roller coaster for the day.

It's less complex than that, even; it's just every new comment in an askme thread more than a month old. Which is sort of an arbitrary cutoff point we picked, but it works fairly well since threads at that point are pretty quiet and all that shows up is late followups from the asker, spam from spammers, and very occasional other bits of oddness like confused newbies trying to ask followup questions in someone else's thread nine months later.
