Yearly MeFi Retrospective Podcast? December 7, 2011 4:57 PM Subscribe
Podcasts of notable things on MeFi each month or so are fun. Maybe a larger scope would be funner. Would a podcast about the entire past year be possible?
I think it'd be cool to see the Admins' favorite posts and memories from the past year in a podcast to wrap the year up. I know it's cliche, but I feel like I've almost certainly missed a lot of triple A posts this past year. And I kinda like New Years, even if it is just a celebration of the slow march of time.
It can be my birthday/Christmas present.

We just recorded a podcast today and we'll be doing another right after the new year to talk about the December posts. I'm not really against the idea of doing an additional Year In Review type thing if the others are game but it miiight be sort of a thing to try and find the energy to really do anything in depth right in the holiday hubbub there, I dunno.
elizardbits, there was a podcast transcription effort going on for a while but I don't remember hearing about it lately so I'm guessing it fell by the wayside. Was a collaborative volunteer effort on the wiki.

There are a podcast transcription push a ways back as a sort of crowdsourced thing but it lost steam. Might be neat to see it starting up again. We recorded podcast 67 today and the next one will be the Award Winner one, but I agree, a retrospective would be neat, or maybe just a retrospective thread as a (hopefully) feelgood thread over holidaytime.

Perhaps if we arrange to make sure everyone has had a couple drinks already and is sitting by either a real fire or has an animated gif of one on their screen.
And/or call-in show.

I support a call-in show or a year-wide overview show.
I just really like the podcasts in general.

Call-in show is a great idea. I wonder if we can put an auto-time limit on the Google Talk message length?

Or a "call this number, record a question or comment we respond to" kinda half-call in show maybe.

a live streaming New Years Eve podcast could be fun but timezones

I deeply fear cortex would be challenged to perform a barrel roll given live call-ins.

I can sound like Jimmy Carr but I have human emotions and feelings.

I think a call-in show would be a great idea. Everybody could leave a message with one or two of their favourite things in the past year, and then the admins could make witty jokes about how that was obviously not nearly as noteworthy as that other thing.
(I really do think it'd be a great idea.)
(And I know the admins only make fun of each other, not users.)
(Out loud.)

I am in favour of this. Maybe MeFi themed caroling?

Yeah, practically speaking I think a call-in show would have to be messages left in a voicemail box ahead of the recording session, not live talk radio. Just way more logistically sane that way, that's how we've done it for previous call-ins.

A year-in-review podcast could be done next year - after the mods have had all of 2012 to take notes for it.

I so totally cannot remember anything from say, 9 months ago, that a year-end best of podcast would be tough to do. I support a call-in show though!
