feeling very pleased with my loan choice - I have helped a woman in Sierra Leone buy:

"extra stout - 5 packets @ Le100,000, bottle parrot drink - 10 crates @ Le50,000, savannah - 10 packets @ Le140,000, Carlsberg beer - 10 crates @ Le120,000, soft drink in cans - 5 crates @ Le70,000 and pure drinking water - 20 bundles @ Le2,500."

Nice goin everyone. My most recent loan-ee was a woman starting a clothing store here in Kenya. At some point I'm hoping to get out to Kisumu to visit her and Obama's grandmother...will post a picture when I do.

So many people helped us get to this thread today. Thank you. The toughest part of online annual fund campaigning is keeping up momentum year on year. In the first year, we went to 25K in around 12 months. In the second 12 months, we efficiently got to 46,925 by May 2011's appeal - meaning an 8.7% drop in loans in year two. Four months into year three, we have loaned around 16.7 percent of our Y1 total. We may see an astonishing 44% drop in real participation by May 2012.

I stepped down as captain and got Jessamyn to take my place but the responsibility for raising awareness was still an open question filled in with bits by me and a few others. I would really love to see someone step forward to take care of the team and to do the appeal in a meaningful way which does not fatigue Metafilter's members unnecessarily. We've shown Mefites can act globally to make a difference. I hope you will make a loan and take this opportunity to be an actor for the common good in your community.
