How do we un-propose a proposed meetup in IRL after nothing ever came to fruition?
I proposed a meetup in Oslo while I was traveling in the area and it never happened because no one was available. I noticed today it still shows up as a proposed meetup and when I went to edit/update/confirm it, I found no way to simply close it. Then I noticed there are other proposed events in the same state (for example, the Iceland one).
I feel like the original poster should have a way to remove their post from the proposed queue.

Well I didn't really mean delete. More of a don't let it show up as proposed because it's ... no longer proposed.

I just figured it could be annoying to go to the IRL site and say to yourself "oh hey! There's a meetup proposed in city x!" only to find out it was proposed a month ago and no one could meet. Maybe there's a magical time limit wherein stuff falls off of the proposed list. In which case ... nevermind.

1. Demand ring back.
2. Write a ranty AskMe
3. Use contact form.

Nah, you can't ask site-related stuff on AskMe.

Not with that attitude!

I think this makes sense. Maybe it could work kind of like marking a question "resolved" in AskMe. If a meetup is proposed by a Mefite who is going to be in a certain area for a defined period of time, leaving the meetup as "proposed" doesn't make sense once they've left. It should still exist (and I guess be open to comments), it should just be left off the proposed list.

Maybe anything "proposed" becomes "maybe next time" once the date it was proposed for passes.

If there's no proposed date, though, it just has to age out based on the date of the IRL post.

Eh, you are right. I had been thinking there was a date field, but that's not until the event gets confirmed.
Most interlibrary loan forms have a "do not need after" box for telling the staff when to quit looking f they haven't found it by then -- would it be a big deal to add this to the proposal page? Then there would be a firm date by which an event would have to be confirmed or abandoned.

Yeah, just send us a note via the contact form and we can close it. That way people will see it if it they're looking through past events, but it won't show up on active pages or the MetaTalk sidebar anymore.
This happens from time to time, but not enough to make it a self-service thing. And closing it on our end takes all of two seconds. So yeah, copy the URL if think of it, paste it into the contact form, and say, "didn't work out."

And add a comment in the thread that says "Nevermind folks, don't show up! You will be lonely and awkward!" maybe?

No need to, maryr. Because with proposed events there is no time or venue set. So there's nowhere for people to show up by mistake.
