Posted to MeFi indicator for Projects page April 4, 2011 1:02 PM Subscribe
A tiny pony request for Projects: could there be an indication on the Projects page when a project has been posted to MeFi? I know the detail page has a "This project was posted to MetaFilter by..." but unless you wish to comment, you'll never see it.
Also, voting is still open even after the project has been posted to MeFi. While that's not necessarily bad, I would expect the MeFi post to be a better source of feedback at that point.

As someone that checks out projects a lot I am in total agreement with Conrad Cornelius o'Donald o'Dell.

Hmm, I always assumed "vote" meant "recommend that someone post this to the front page." However, the MePro About page explains it this way:

The votes are an indicator of how much the membership likes your project, in the off chance it doesn't become a post, you'll at least know if it struck a chord with anyone. Therefore, voting shouldn't necessarily end after it gets FPP'd. But maybe that feature should be explained a little better somewhere near the "vote" button. It's not exactly clear what it's for, at a glance.

Good point, TWPL. I'd hate to get all Facebook-y, but maybe "Vote" should be re-named something more like "Like"? Voting generally implies that something will happen as a result of the vote. This vote is more like an election in a banana republic, with Comandante Mathowie controlling the outcome. :)
But seriously... "votes" are a lot closer to "favorites" (if used in the "thumbs up" rather than bookmark sense). So maybe the terminology should be reconsidered.

This was requested before, and the mods seemed to think it was a good idea, but then the pony apparently wandered off and never called back. Or something.

Huh I was just clicking through looking for another MeTa thread and saw this. I think having the voting stay open is probably something that we should keep but having a visible indicator on the main Projects page isn't a bad idea. I'll poke folks and see what they think. Sorry we were all MIA on this.

Yeah, this is a good idea, we should move the indicator to the front page and probably will get to it sometime this week.

We added this today. Projects that have been posted to MeFi are highlighted and have a MeFi icon next to the Project link.
