Meeting up in Montreal January 12, 2010 7:30 PM Subscribe
Any Montreal MeFites interested in meeting up with little e and me this upcoming Saturday or Sunday?
Sunday seems the best bet since it's the only whole day we'll be there but if Saturday works better that's okay too. We don't know much about the city so we'll leave any location decision making up to you guys.

I'm not a massively RL kind of person, but I'd be happy to meet for coffee or whatnot. Depending on the refreshments and time of day you have in mind I can suggest different places.
And you've picked a great time to be in Montreal if you're into food - the "Happening Gourmand" is on this month - 8 restaurants from smooth to swanky in Old Montreal are offering discount table d'hotes. Good food for not too much moolah!

Alright! I was starting to fear there wouldn't be a meetup. Coffee would be swell. Or food, possibly.

Oh hi. I could meet Sunday morning. We do nice breakfasts, but I need to be done by 1 or 1:30. I could also meet in the evening.

As I mentioned above, breakfast is always a great idea. 11 o'clock brunch meetup on Sunday, yay/nay?

Sunday mornings tend to have lineups, so I recommend 10:30, not 11 (everyone plans to go out at 11, so it's best to beat the rush, and that way I will certainly not have to rush out). L'Avenue is good, if often too busy (and quite loud); the place across the street, Eldorado, is good, too (Mont Royal nearish St Hubert). Sparrow (St Laurent near Fairmount) is interesting. Le Cartet in Old Montreal is good. I've never managed to get to Reservoir for breakfast, though it's popular, same with Toasteur.
So some of this depends on where you want to be in the city later that day.

Okay. So, L'Avenue & El Dorado are standard breakfasty, a bunch of choices of crepes, eggs, waffles, the usual. Sparrow is English pub, and their menu is on facebook. Le Cartet has 5 different menus -- a salmon one, a sweet one, a healthy one, a more standard breakfast one. Each one comes with 4 or 5 things -- healthy comes with granola, salad, poached eggs; sweet with crepes, french toast. The portions are, I think, smaller than at the other 3.
I like these all and don't terribly have a preference.

Let's go with L'Avenue & El Dorado since if one is crazy busy we can just pop over the road to the other.

Allo Montréal!
I hope you don't mind if I piggyback on this thread, but if there is sufficient interest in my query I'll make a new thread.
I'm living in Toronto these days, but I'm going to be in Montréal for a conference from February 4-7th and was wondering if there would be sufficient interest for a meet-up so soon after this one. The conference is actually only a one day event, but I thought I would explore your fair city for the weekend, so the 6th or 7th might work better for my schedule. I'd be located in downtown near UQAM so I could take the Metro anywhere if people wanted to meet.
Thoughts? Again, if it's too close in scheduling for people, I understand - but thought I would ask.

I've been working pretty much straight through since yesterday morning (yay release schedules), so it's likely sleep will win over sociability. Have a great time everyone!

Well, I'll be at L'Avenue tomorrow, and I'm willing to meet even Torontonians. Montreal meetups seem to be lightly attended, but you could try another post. Saturdays are better for me than Sundays.

jeather: Excellent! Thanks for the feedback :) I'll post a new thread in a few days so people don't think the post is a double.
I'm actually originally from Ottawa (where I became bilingual thanks to working on Parliament Hill) and Fort-Coulonge, PQ. I currently divide my time between Hanoi, Vietnam (where I sprak Vietnamese, and French) and Canada, so I'm not really a Torontonian (am I?). At least I hope not, because I felt a moment of panic when I wrote "I'm living in Toronto". I've only been here since September. :)

We're up and about and getting ready to head over. I look like my profile picture except for that whole bullet hole thing.

Yes. Agreed... St. Viateur's were much better. To be fair Fairmont gave us a cold bagel while StV's was warm and fluffy, so there's that.

I'm glad you all had a fabulous time in Montreal, I miss the city very much!
Just to follow-up on my previous thread-jack, I'm not longer coming to your fair city on Feb. 4-7th :(. A combination of severe illness and scheduling issues is keeping me in Toronto. One day soon I will visit again, I promise!
