Start Conference in San Francisco July 1, 2008 8:01 PM Subscribe
I saw the ad for the Start Conference, and clicked on it. Love the concept and the speaker's list looks solid as well. I also noticed that MetaFilter is a sponsor of the event. So who here is planning on going?

I wonder if this has anything to do with none of my FF extensions, such as ad block, obliterating this ad?

It's in the images folder on metafilter, that's why adblock didn't catch it. Takes a couple clicks to get rid of it though.

"Start is a one-day conference in San Francisco designed for smart, talented Web people..."
Shit. Call me when it's conference time for dumb, talentless Web people.

Yeah, I'm going and I like the idea of it (I really do think anyone can build a cool web app and make a small living from it), so I offered them a free ad spot for the month of July and they said sounds good.

Merlin Mann of 43 folders looks like he is 13 years old.

Or better yet, I bet anyone can run a string of these junkets, or be a featured speaker at one, every couple of months, attracting all the web hipsters, and make a better than small living at it.

"Start" is also an ill-conceived label for a button designed to initiate processes that include shutting off a computer.
maybe I should attend a UED conference...

They should have called it the "This Shit Just Got Real" button.

I am tentatively planning on going although I haven't registered yet. If enough MeFi people go, let's try to meet up there at some point!
