How to find Mefites by city July 1, 2008 7:48 PM   Subscribe

How to find Mefites in a specific location? I want to find all Mefites in Panama City, Panama. Is it possible to do this; if so, how? Someone suggested editing my profile and changing my location to the city I want to locate others in and then looking at nearby mefites but that didn't work.

I was one of the people who suggested that. Can you explain why that didn't work? What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

Just putting in the city name might not work outside of the US. Did you try your putting in the latitude and longitude instead? When I did it, western hemisphere longitudes needed to be negative, so watch out for that. Your lat would be roughly 9.0, long roughly -79.5 by my calculations.

sorry about the AskMe

you set your lat/lon coordinates to austin, tx, not panama city. panama city's coordinates are 8.993, -71.520.

i just plugged those in though, and it said there were no other users nearby. so, you may be out of luck.

oops, make that 8.993, -79.520. sheesh

There's a Google Earth plugin that will allow you to see any MeFites located on any part of the globe.

The robots already know.

Does this apply only to those who have supplied their lat/lon? F'rinstance, just supplying Tupelo, MS, without the lat/lon won't mark you on this special robot free map, will it?

So...there are six. But are they electric?

The Google Earth map is generated by users entering lat/long. They will not appear otherwise. The closest user is in Costa Rica. By inference: wogbat.

I had just changed the city; found when I entered lat/lon it returned results. Thanks to all!

I'm curious. What results did you get? You should get 'no other users nearby'.

You should get 'no other users nearby'
Okay, now I think about it - that's a result.

And you seem happy "Thanks to all!" So, live well.
Even though I may always wonder.
