Spot-the-Mefite: "American Libraries " edition
In the December 2007 issue of "American Libraries", there's a picture of a bearded dude on page 48 who happens to be sporting a Metafilter shirt. The only photo information is "scenes from the ALA TechSource's Gaming, Learning, and Libraries Symposium". Who was that masked man anyway?

Guilty as charged. Man, I hate that photo, I look like I'm hocking a loogie or something, but I love my MeFi shirt! It was a father's day present. That's not me in your photo, though, MrMoonPie, I missed the DC ALA meetup.

This will probably not be an easy task, considering the high concentration of beardies and librarians on MetaFilter. I've always suspected that everyone on MetaFilter secretly had a beard, shaving it only when attending a MeFi Meetup.

Actually, higher level Mefibrarians can physically retract their beards straight into their skin. It's a dubious skill at best and really makes me wish we had better representation when the superpowers were being handed out.

Heh, thanks cosmicbandito. Also in that stream are my kids dressed up as chibi-robo and telly from the past two halloweens. We've been batting around the kids being Olimar and Looie and my wife and I and my sister-in-law being Pikmin, but I'd really love to be Toejam and Earl. We'd need to work up to a costume of that magnitude though.
Please note that I can indeed retract my ashkenazi beard, leaving a passably italian mustache, as Jessamyn's link clearly shows.

Nope, that's me, and I'm not nearly cutting-edge enough to be at the Gaming in Libraries Symposium. Maybe if Konami comes out with Waltz Waltz Revolution I could plausibly bring it to my library.

Konami comes out with Waltz Waltz Revolution
You know, that is actually a plausible game for the Wii. Lots of oldsters love the WiiSports already, and if you could get a Dancing With the Stars license I bet you'd move a fair number. Would the front/back/left/right shaped pad be a problem for ballroom though? Perhaps just angle it 45 degrees. Hmmm.

Every one that I know of is linked in my profile as a "colleague" except in some cases where I'd already marked them as "friend" and then didn't go back to update. So the answer is... 50-ish? I also have a MeFi T-shirt, but no beard.

Incidentally, since Ulotrichous's location has been outed, some of us are scheming to have a meetup in the Ann Arbor Public Library, and he has to provide the games. I seem to recall, from the blur of my catholic childhood, that the cathedral in Boston had the hats of the cardinals (and bishops?) hanging from the ceiling. Each piece slowly falling apart high in the dusty cathedral light. Not a Pope's hat, exactly, but the image is burned into my visual memory.
