Hyderabadi Meetup January 9, 2008 3:48 AM Subscribe
Any Indian Mefites (active/non-active) out there, who'd like to get together?
If anyone is going to be in the area (Banjara Hills; Hyderabad) on January the 13th, Slarty Bartfast and I are going to be at the Crossword Bookshop's Coffee Bar, across the Taj Krishna, at City Center, around 5 or 6 PM.
Let us know if anyone is interested to join us. Cheers!

Cool. I was in Hyderabad recently during a family vacation last month, but not for very long. Is City Center that massive mall?

Gyan: I'll be in Mumbai on the 17th. I'll be travelling the country by train extensively for the next few months and would love to meet fellow MeFites anywhere along the way. I know this isn't AskMeFi, but do any of you have any personal recommendations of places to visit? (I'm very, very excited!)

Um, if you're talking about that really huge one that's still under construction--nope. It's the one further up the road, right opposite to the Hotel Taj Krishna (formerly known as Krishna Oberoi).
Hope you enjoyed your trip!
but do any of you have any personal recommendations of places to visit?
From North to South:
Delhi
Agra
Rajasthan
West Bengal
(Or if you're up to it: The Palace on Wheels [itinerary, tarrifs] which will take you through Delhi, Agra and Rajasthan).
Andhra Pradesh
Kerela
Goa
Maharashtra
Oh, and Jammu and Kashmir is getting back on the tourist trail too if you're interested.

Gyan, I'll be sure to look you up the next time I'm in Mumbai:)
PS. Here's another site you might want to look at ageispolis.

It was a great trip, thanks, though not enough time in Hyderabad or Chennai! The huge mall with escalators which I briefly visited (after timidly crossing the street from Deli 9) didn't seem to be under construction. I would sign up for this meetup if I was still there but I'm not and had little to no net access while traveling anyway. :)
Specific and random places to recommend from my recent somewhat southern-oriented trip:
Padmanabhapuram Palace
Kanyakumari
Mahamallapuram
Kovalam Beach - though we were just passing through on the way to the airport it was an extremely luxurious and beautiful hour that we spent having tea at the Leela resort.
Chandni Chowk, Delhi
Also, if you go to Delhi and visit Red Fort, there is a little restaurant inside the monument, to one side, where you can sit on wooden throne-like chairs and have chaat.
I should have left this to MeFites in India to answer but I guess I'm still giddy from the trip & a little eager to share. Have fun!

Heh, yeah, a lot of foreigners have a problem crossing that road to reach City Center (yup, that's the one with the escalators).
