ND¢'s two cents cause a shitstorm. News at 11. November 28, 2007 12:47 PM Subscribe
ND¢, generally I really like you, but it's clear that you are being a dick for the sake of being a dick, notwithstanding your attempts at justifying that as your real and valid opinion. All you had to say was "yeah, maybe my joke was a little offside" and no one here would have busted your balls over it. Just be a decent human being with a little respect and understanding and things don't have to turn into a shitpile.
Read the rest of the thread jackass, he says just that later on.

ND¢ is being a gentleperson, which is good, but I don't see an apology as necessary. People say stuff like that on the site all the time, except in this instance it happened to coincide with an unpopular opinion. The insults and piling on that happened later in the thread were far worse than the initial comment.

I'm surprised by the reaction all this has caused. While I think the tasing was out of line and the officer should be punished, I don't think that ND¢'s opinion is so outrageously offensive that he should be forced to apologize and be labeled a dick in metatalk for having it.
It's definitely not the most offensive thing I've ever read on metafilter. It's probably not in the top ten. I'm not sure it's even in the top ten most offensive things on metafilter written by ND¢.

I guess I don't understand, which is not uncommon for me.
The comment we're apparently wigging the fuck out about at the moment is "I'd have tased his ass too."
I appreciate that he apologized, but, seriously, for what? I guess he could have been a little more nuanced, but he's saying - if he was in the same situation, he'd do the same thing. I don't feel the same way.
Here's the thing.
So what?
So ND¢ should demand an apology from everyone who said, basically, "What a fascist pig, that cop, I can't believe he did that!"
Surprise! People on the internet disagree. He wasn't even being particularly vicious about it.
This is a lame thread. Learn to tolerate people who have opinions that are different. It helps.

Some months back my mother made pickled cauliflower, and she brought a jar over for Thanksgiving, along with pickled peppers and dills. While all three jars were quite good, I'd been looking forward to the cauliflower in particular because she'd made the batch by adding into the brine a handful of mustard seeds. There's something incredibly, almost majestically savory about the combination of these particular brassica.
After we were sat at the table, I inspected the jar closely -- the brine remained clear, tinted yellow from the herbs and spices she'd added so liberally, the florets themselves were a light, even purple color similar to lavender. Unscrewing the jar, I pried off the lid to the fantastically pleasing sound of air rushing into the vessel ending in the distinct tok noise of the seal popping outward, a sign that the vacuum had held during the pickling process.
I inhaled deeply of the salty, spicy chilled liquid inside and found it to be perfectly palatable. Ladling out a generous portion onto my plate, I passed the jar on to my wife, who blanched (she is rarely as culinarily curious as I am, and condiments other than butter or mayonnaise make her complain) and proferred the jar to the next person around the table.
I bit into the first floret. Crisp, completely sour and entirely salty. My family eyed me nervously, unsure of what to expect. Spit or swallow, they mused silently; the eternal conundrum.
While I chewed thoughtfully, my sister broke the silence. She demanded, "Well? Are they good?". "They are", I pronounced, "delicious".
The others dug in to their portions. "Waag", my mother gurgled, tears forming in her eyes and reaching for her napkin. My sister-in-law declared that she was dying. To their palates, these white jewels were overwhelming. Philistines, I decided, incapable of appreciating the pungent beauty of this succulent side.
I have now eight (!) jars of these pickles, and have turned some into a fantastic relish, which I have used in a particularly intriguing variation on the classic Reuben sandwich.
But that's a story for another time.

Of course, you seem ignorant both about the situation, and the situation about the situation, so double points for you and your righteous indignation.
