College interview AskMe? November 18, 2007 9:22 PM   Subscribe

Some time ago I recall reading a really good AskMe about college alumni interviews. Now I can't find it for the life of me. Help?

The person asking it, IIRC, was a prospective student. I remember quite a few Mefites who are alumni interviewers talking about what they looked for and how they approached the interviews. They had pretty good advice, and now that I'm approaching my first real interview, I would really love to read it again. Problem is, no amount of searching with different combinations of keywords has produced it. Does anyone else remember this thread?

Hooray! I don't know how I missed that on my searches... actually I have an uncomfortable feeling I skimmed over that exact title and somehow didn't realize that it was exactly what I was looking for. Oh well. Thank you very much, tellurian!

I am not sure if you are asking about it because you are contemplating such an interview, but if you are this is nothing to really sweat over, especially if the school is highly competitive on admissions. I used to do these and frankly most interviewers are trying to find ways to make you more appealing to the admissions committee. Most of them will only get a few students in during their entire tenure and are happy when one of their students gets admitted. Mostly this is an opportunity for you to expand upon things that did not make it into your application. One of my friends who also does this had a student who suffered from a nasty disease and who had started a national organization to provide support to sufferers of the disease. He left it off his application because he did not want to brag. (He was admitted.)
