I falafel. November 7, 2007 8:38 AM Subscribe
Oh come on, people. Bad jokes are being deleted now? None of my posts are going to be left by the time you're done.
First, to preface... I love falafel. I eat it a lot. It's delish.
But from California to Southeast Asia to the Middle East, I have been telling my stupid "You know why they call it falafel, don't you?"* joke for decades. And it's just so incredibly stupid that somehow it always gets a laugh. (Even in Egypt, where the response was, "Oh! It's an english word play! Ha ha! But wait... falafel is wonderful, yes?" To which I responded "Yes, it's just a silly joke." and mutual smiles ensued.) The humor is just because it's silly stupid totally dumb. NOT because it's making some kind of blanket judgement on falafel or falafel lovers worldwide. As I am one.
Sooooo last night I threw it into a comment here just for the sillies, and was a bit surprised to wake up this morning to find the joke deleted.
So I am dying to know if, unbeknownst to me, falafel humor is a flaggable offense. If so, perhaps I need to be educated so that as penance for my insensitivity I can begin championing the rights of falafel worldwide a bit more. Alas, perhaps it's time for me to rethink my beloved, stupid falafel joke... and to never again say it in mixed company. I would also like to know for my own sake if there is other food humor that I should be more sensitive about. Or hey, maybe it's not about the falafel and we should all just stop telling stupid jokes. In which case, there are a lot of people who are gonna have nothing left to post here. Yeah... I'm looking at you, my dear The Deej.
Lastly, if I have hurt the feelings of any falafel in the audience then I would like to wholeheartedly apologize.
*E-mail me for punchline if you need it, I do not want to say it here and continue my cycle of hate.

I've had jokes deleted if they added nothing to the discussion.
I think this is where your joke fell.

None of your comments have been removed in the last week. I can leave this open or close it now.

You made your joke in another thread, not the one you linked to.

Taking out every stupid joke or derail that doesn't add to the discussion would be a full time job. That's part of the whole "conversational" aspect of the comments here, and frankly, part of what I enjoy about it. Sometimes the nonsequitor comments are far more fun than the original discussion. For example, I posted about people dancing and it turned into a discussion about how we all crave tikka masala pizza.

I have occasionally lost comments when posting in a hurry and inadvertantly clicking Preview rather than Post, then leaving. Did you ever actually see the witicism integrated into the thread after posting it?

I'm an ass.
Here's why I got confused. This comment was in the same format so I thought it was a play on that comment I had made...
And...
Ummm...
I SHOULDN'T POST PRE-MORNING COFFEE.
Okay, so nothing to see here. Feel free to humiliate me for this in the future. As I know you will. In the meantime, have fun in the thread, kids. Don't break anything.

Getting a stupid comment deleted would not have been worth the hysterics in this thread, miss lynnster.
