Stupid Tag Question October 26, 2007 1:30 PM Subscribe
Please forgive me if this is a stupid question, but how does one "view tags" for a FPP? (I tried searching for "viewing tags" or just "tags" but the amount of entries returned overwhelmed by googlefu) I know I can view popular tags, but is there a preference where you can see tags (such as near the flag/favorite entries)?
You can't view tags on the front page, if that's what you mean. You have to click on the post, as jessamyn says.

It's in the post's appendix page, right after the bibliography.

Ah that was it... I wasn't looking at the right of the page. For some dumb reason, I thought thags would appear in the [add to favorites] [!] line. Thanks!

amberglow, if you are looking at the full page with comments of an FPP (for example), you see a block of tags to the right of the page, in a darker-colored blue box. Yes? I think that's what the question was about.
Or, do you mean you only know how to see which posts have been tagged with a given tag -- for example, film -- by clicking on that tag? That's the usual way. You can also just swap in the word you're interested in (say it was "aardvark") into the formula "www.metafilter.com/tags/aardvark".
If you want to see which posts have been tagged with two tags together, click on the first tag or enter its URL, and then look at the list of common other tags applied to posts that are already tagged with your first tag (the list is in the right column). Click on the little "+" sign next to any one of those (for example, next to "comedy"), to get posts that are tagged with BOTH your first tag and the one you've just chosen from the list: film+comedy. Or enter your chosen words into the formula "www.metafilter.com/tags/aardvark+diet".

Debaser626, I definitely can see where you got that impression because people commenting on cryptic posts say things like "just read the tags" or "I wouldn't have known what the post was about if I hadn't seen the tags" - which might lead one to think the tags are somehow available from the front page/original post. But as others have noted, you have to click through to the comments page to see the tags.
