Favoriting users?
Is there a way to favorite individual users so we can follow their posts, without actually linking to them? There are some people whose comments I really like to read, but I would feel creepy linking to them, because I don't personally know them or have any kind of online rapport with them.
Is this possible? If not, could it be? Would anyone else be into this?

There's nothing creepy about making a contact of someone you don't know; just leave the XFN detail things blank if none of them apply. Tracking folks' comments like that is one of the things the Contacts feature is for.
Alternatively, if you use an RSS reader, you can subscribe to per-user feeds.

(Or maybe there aren't user comment feeds, only post feeds? You can tell how much I use RSS.)

"Contacts" are not just for people you know in the real world or talk with online. If you like their stuff then make them a contact so you can follow it. It's hardly creepy.

It's not creepy to link to someone. They won't get a notification or anything, so the only way they'll know is if they click on the "linked by" number on their own profile. Most likely, they'll be flattered. I've never met any of the people I link to, or that link to me. I use the designation "muse" both because nothing else fits, and because the whole reason I link to someone is because they inspire me in some way.
At any rate, you can always bookmark the old-fashioned way.

cortex: There's nothing creepy about making a contact of someone you don't know
So...you're...saying that these people aren't my stalkers? You mean I can come out of my diamantine bunker? I can stop subsisting only on jam preserves, dried apricots and my own recycled urine? And are you saying that the five bodies I interred under the gazebo weren't in fact my mortal enemies?
WHY COULDN'T YOU HAVE TOLD ME SOONER?!

Don't worry, I won't be creeped out when you link to me. With posts as numerous and compelling as mine who can blame you?

Or, of course, you don't have to add any designation at all, if you don't want to.

I, for one, would be deeply freaked out if you added me to your contact list, seeing as how we have no online rapport.

I once carved two full upper-case alphabet stamp sets out of pencil erasers and Pink Pearls, respectively. My job at the time was not very challenging.

Only people who want to be photographed by me are allowed to add me as a contact. Otherwise, you're being CREEPY.
Unless you also add me as a crush, in which case you're a STALKER. Which I can always use more of.

I linked to Amanda years ago, but I wasn't aware that means I was stalking her. That means she's stalking me too, along with eleven other people.
I was gonna leave a briefer post in here saying something like, "why won't anybody stalk me? *sob* " and then I actually looked and I see I actually got a cool dozen people stalking me. I feel all warm and fuzzy inside. =) You like me! You really like me! It's a happy day.
I shouldstalk link to more people, but I don't think I quite know how. In fact I may have linked to Amanda by mistake. I've read this thread and I still don't understand what it means to 'favorite' people. I'm gonna experiment, and hopefully by the time you click on the links above, I will be stalking all twelve of the people stalking me. That'll be hella kewl.
