Meet Me at the Comics Festival! August 7, 2007 1:51 PM Subscribe
A plug, sort of: I'm going to be attending the Toronto Comic Arts Festival in a couple of weeks—I'll be there on the 18th and 19th, with my own little table. Robot Johnny will also be there. If any Mefites in Toronto are planning on coming to the festival, I'd love to meet you!
I guess August is near the end of the year, so I suppose I'm sort of nearing the end. It sure doesn't feel like it, though.

Great, I'll come. LOL, Can I bring my (finally newly formalized yet fledgling) portfolio (if it's worth anything by then) and sit with you and Johnny?
Hey, is the splash at the top of the TCAF page a quick Paul Dini sketch?

Of course! But Johnny is in a higher and more important class than I am, so I don't know if I'll be anywhere near him.

Considering it's happening about 10-15 min walk from my place, I'd be remiss not to go. Are you thinking meetup, or should we just go there and stalk you?

I might have time for a meetup after the festival's over, but probably not during the festival.

Thanks, John. My portfolio won't be done & it wouldn't steal any of your thunder anyway. I'll just be the first John Ralston hanger-on. Someday I'll be able to brag to your circle of fans and debutantes that I followed you around before you were famous.
Yeah, Robot Johnny is very cool. And DRAWN! is an incredible 'blog.
SassHat, I might be available for your meetup-ing pleasure.

Have fun up there. Watch out for bears. I hear they're everywhere in Canada.

Who's "Ming"?

Okay, hmm. While grabbing this img I discovered that John Ralston, who plays the villainous dictator Ming on SCI FI Channel's upcoming series Flash Gordon ... doesn't necessarily see his character as completely evil.
Nope, Slap Factory, wrong John Ralston.
btw, has the img src tag been disabled here? When did that happen? I've been away for a while. That first Ming would've looked good inline.

I wish I were Ming the Merciless.

Wait a minute... are you CANADIAN, i-bang?
and wouldn't you LIKE to be called iBang for short, like you're an Apple product?

No, I'm not Canadian, but my sister lives there. Although I did live in Canada for a couple of years when I was five.
I use many Apple products, but I am not one myself, so far.

Yes, our years used to be worth about half of yours, but they're almost at par now. *ducks*
I may or not be able to make it to the festival, but some kind of meetup sounds great. Looks like the festival officially closes at 6 PM Sunday. Is a Sunday meetup in the cards, or are you staying over a day or two?

Sunday might be good! I'll be in Toronto for a little under a week, so other nights would be good, too.

Why don't you list your free nights, then we can work around that?

I'm tentatively free from the nights of the 19th to the 23rd—the only problem is that I'm visiting my sister while I'm there, and I don't know what she has planned. I'm sure we can work around anything, though.

Hey, I'm going to try to make it to the comic con, but if not, I'd definitely be into a meetup!

Anyone who wants a drink or such, just e-mail me and I'll give you my cellphone #. Or I suppose you can catch me at John's table, at least for the first night.

John C. Ralston is currently nearing the end of his "A Year In Comics" project, which sees him printing a new page of comics every day of 2007.
Nearing the end in the "we're all dying every day" sense, I guess. It ain't even Q4 yet.
