Well, if you click through to adamgreenfield's web page on his profile, he says in his blog he'll be on morning edition. So, yeah, I guess it is him.

If you had searched Amazon for the book you would have found that it is indeed Metafilter's Own Adam Greenfield.

Metafilter: Destroying your desire for privacy, one outing at a time.

Publishing a book and being on NPR are key elements in my bid for privacy. Having a MeFi username that's my name—second tier.

Carsonb--you could be sneaky like me, and have a username that is someone else's name.

That's too spooky for me, adamrice.

I've always figured I should be as accountable as possible, as directly as possible, for all my utterances here. Sometimes this policy results in me cringing and attempting to hide under the kitchen sink until my shame blows away, but on balance it's a good thing.

That was indeed me on NPR: thanks for noticing. I kind of wish they had asked me about something I actually think and write and (uh, care much) about, but oh well, right? I'm just happy that I managed not to materially misrepresent the state of play, without resorting to technical jargon. I hope.

Uh o. Are we supposed to be trying for anonymity? One click from my profile and my life is laid bare. Not me, just my life.

Could somebody write a book called "Ubiquitards, or Stupidity Everywhere" about how emergent technologies are helping us all to discover what stupid people think about stuff? Like, for example, youtube.com, which not only brings us videos but lets us know what a vast array of self-selecting dumb people think of them. I'd write it myself but I'm lazy and a thicko.

Hmm. I would be compelled to call it adamgreenfield's sock puppet, though - 'twould seem to rather defeat the purpose.

jonmc will be pleased to know that I have graduated to actual cheesesteaks. Portobello...ecch.

‘I served with adamgreenfield.’

I'm sorry, I very much doubt that.

Adam has the absurd notion that he's unique on MetaFilter in that no other mefites served in the Army's PSYOP—even though I've told him that I personally know one who did. Considering this is the only mefite I knew personally before I joined, I feel certain there are at least one or two others out there among the 30K or so real members. But Adam has a need to be a special snowflake and thus his service with PSYOPS is one those things he makes sure everyone knows. The guy I know hardly mentions it, ever. But then he's not cultivating a public persona.

Adam has a need to be a special snowflake

Where did that come from? My read of that line was "Um, I think I would have known if you were in my group" The only person who brought up PSYOPS here is you.

EB, I've met adam, he's a good guy. Relax.

Adam has a need to be a special snowflake

Whoah there, pumpkin! jessamyn's read is, of course, correct, and you are way, way out of line.

I could speculate as to the reasons why you felt it necessary to leave such a titanic turd in a purely harmless thread, but it wouldn't really get any of us anywhere.

It's true that I'm inordinately proud of one or two things I've done in my life, mostly because I still can't believe I've had the good fortune to have experienced them. You might want to spend some time thinking about why that bothers you so.

And FWIW, for the record, I've never seen Buffy either. : . )
