So whats with PageFlakes? July 23, 2007 6:54 AM Subscribe
What's with the PageFlakes ads? I dont really care if they are there, I just posted this so some other people can vent if needed.
We've had adds for logged on users on the site before, in the same little corner.

Let people vent for themselves or you'll wind up looking like a passive agressive weenie. Nobody wants that.

Thanks for posting this! If I know what you were talking about, I would totally be up in arms over it! Matt, this would be the final straw, I am theoretically very angry with you!

Thanks for posting this.
The ad is so unobtrusive that I didn't even notice it. Now I can click-through and maybe put a few pennies into the MeFi coffer.

Does anyone else get a little grossed out by the word "pageflakes"? I can't say why I do, but I do.
This thread is ridiculous, though.

What delmoi said—Matt has used that little ad block a number of times; there was a long-running Jewelboxing ad back in the day, and he helped advertise the Meficomp for a month or so earlier this year, etc.

What's with this callout? I'm fine with it, but in case anyone else wants to gripe, I thought I'd show them the way.

We need preemptive MeTa posts. I don't really feel this way but I'm sure someone does, so I thought I'd go ahead and be the first to say it.

OK, I was curious enough to turn off Ad-block and reload the blue so that I could see what you were talking about. It's just another crappy web-portal, rss reader thingy. I quote, "Pageflakes is the easy and fun way to customize the Internet and make it yours." Bleh.

In the future, let people that have a problem with the ad open a thread. Otherwise, it's just needless noise, where you sound like you're trying to land on both sides of the issues by complaining, but not really.

Yes. It sounds like a skin disease suffered by young medieval boys, contracted after unusually intimate requests from their knight masters.

What's with parking in driveways and driving on parkways? I don't really care, I just mention it so some other people can discuss linguistic determinism as it relates to traffic law.

To feed the trolls in these pages
and give in to their fanciful rages
just give MeFi a shake
to sprinkle the flakes
and rattle the bars of their cages.

Well in my top desk drawer, I have about eleven cocks. And on the floor, catching drops of rain that are leaking through the ceiling, I has bukkit. Is there some way to combine the two?

Wheelieman, apparently you have two problems, one that's easy to solve and one that's harder. The former problem is your distaste for 125-pixel advertisements on MetaFilter. This is easily fixed by adding a hosts entry for static.fmpub.net on your desktop, or perhaps with AdBlock. The latter (harder-to-solve) problem is your inferiority complex. You're clearly unable to admit to yourself that you're as important as any other Mefite and take responsibility for your own opinions. Anyone can complain on MetaTalk, and anyone has as much chance of being heard by Matt as anyone else. You included. Say it to yourself ten times each morning: "I am important. My opinions do matter."
