Admins, please help! June 21, 2007 6:21 AM   Subscribe

Help! a question I asked yesterday on ask.metafilter disappeared. I received no message from admin about it. I looked both in my recent activity and on the questions posted yesterday. Yet I am not allowed to post another question for a week. My question was not inappropriate in any way and I should have been contacted if it was. I demand the question restored (it was: tips on looking for a new job while currently employed) or to have the right to post another question immediately. I also emailed this via the contact form.

I demand the question restored

is it too early for popcorn?

Your demands notwithstanding, the question is here. It was deleted, with the reason given as "this exact question has been asked several times before."

I love it when they talk tough. It gets me all hot.

Hi -- I'm sorry I didn't email you, I think I confused your username with a longer-time user. I just sent you an email explaining what happened and where you can go to get answers for your questions. Please feel free to email me back if you have more questions about this.

This comment is not inappropriate in any way and I should be contacted if it is. I demand the comment persist (it is: semi-witty snark about metatalk demand) or to have the right to post another comment immediately.

Side question: Is it usual to delete questions if they've asked repeatedly before or is this something new?

I think that doubles do happen on occasion and don't get deleted (for example), but if it is something that stands out for having been asked multiple times, then I think that they do delete it.

Deletion-as-double in AskMe is relatively rare; it's usually reserved for things that are a general idea question. Really detailed situational things not so much.

We only delete duplicates if they've been asked many times before in almost exactly the same fashion. Anything that has a personal situation angle that makes it different usually stays. There is maybe one question every few months that this happens to, in my estimation.

You deserve neither. Also, posting this thread was not a good idea.

I demand that those making demands be drowned in a vat of granola!

Oh, wait . . .

I'll take hashbrowns, scattered, smothered and covered, side of bacon, and coffee.

Perhaps when double-posts are deleted, posting a link to the earlier version would be helpful for new users.

(yes, yes, I realise people can search, but I would think that it would simply be a nice gesture to new users... I'm generally in favour of giving people the benefit of the doubt until proven wrong).

And I thought I was a pain in the ass.

modernnomad, it's a good idea. When there's a comment in the thread pointing in the right direction, it's a little less needed, though.

Plus, to be honest, if someone can't find their own deleted thread, it's going to be less than helpful which is why we often send an email to newer users who get their questions removed [which often have such links].

I demand that those making fun of those making demands cease and desist immediately. If it weren't for my own recent demand I'd never have known about this thread.

BTW: love the pitchfork icon, but can you work on the ringtone?

I thought you were too, m_c_d, I thought you were too.

How wrong we both were. I demand the reinstatement of my right to think you're an asshole!

I demand that people use the search box.

Thanks for the clarification admins.

Now, I demand a second season of Serenity or Dick Cheney in leg irons.

Perhaps the admins could close this thread, if the issue is addressed?
