If you dupe a deleted post, does it make a sound? April 23, 2007 10:52 AM Subscribe
One is deleted because it has no link. The other is deleted because it's a dupe of the first. But can you dupe a deleted thread? Can you dupe a thread that has no link? Or is this just capitalist revisionism?
Very odd. Did cortex not realize jessamyn had nuked the first? Personally, I think nickyskye's should be reinstated with an added news link or something; we're going to have a thread about this, and really, who the fuck cares how it's worded?

I'm pretty sure I beat jess to the punch, actually. But very Keystone Kops regardless, I guess. When I saw 'em, I thought the second thread was a bit better presented, but the comments had already devolved into This Is Going To Get Deleted silliness.

"Someone famous dies of old age" newsfilter almost never makes for good posts anyway. The simple fact that a lot of people rush for their keyboards and post about it hoping to be first is enough to justify deleting the lot.

I axed the Wikipedia link one -- it's really a stretch to link to Wikipedia in an obit post -- and restored the other one which I hadn't seen. Sorry about that. Sorry cortex!

I guess I checked out metafilter earlier, in that brief, beautiful minute or so where there were no obitfilter posts.
I knew it was impossible that absolutely no one posted a link and I thought, "Finally! The admins are finally going to force people to make a best-of-the-web post when someone dies."
I'd consider it.
A little ghoulish... but maybe if we drew a line in the sand, say that starting with the next person to die, whose name is on the 2007 death list, we (meaning you admins, natch) nuke any obituary threads that don't feature an interesting link that has something to do with the person. Sure "interesting" is a subjective word. I'm using it here to represent any webpage that isn't a death announcement, dry wikipedia biography, or imdb page.
