East Van Meetup?

Off the back of this AskMe, I propose an East Van meetup sometime in the next couple of weeks. Weekends are out for me (for the next couple of weeks, anyway), but I work more or less in the area, so after work at 8ish somewhere on Main would be good...who's in?

I'm in. Can't do mondays, and occasionally can't do thursdays, but other nights are free.

I can't do Thursdays and need a couple of weeks' notice (at least) for any weekend.

Main Street? The Drive? What kind of meet? Coffee? Food and drink? Cafe Calabria? Locus? Wazubee?

I can't do thursdays either, or mondays, usually.

So: Wednesday May 2nd? That gives people a week or so's notice.

The Drive could be good, actually, I rarely go there, and new places are a good thing. I've not been to any of those places bar Wazubee, but I'd happily try any of them.

Oh! There is a new bar on the drive I've been meaning to check out. I think it's called The Charlatan. It's a few blocks north of first. Looks like a nice pub.

Except my brother is visiting that week and we might already have plans.

I was at The Charlatan this afternoon with a friend as it was nice out, and their patio's not bad. It was the second time we'd been there. Their fries are killer - a mix of potato, yam, and sweet potato with a balsamic reduction. mmmm. They've got lots of beer on tap too. The general food menu is the usual West Coast fusion stuff, and good. They make their veggie burger on site, and it's yummay. The meat burger's a little on the small side, but it's ok for $10. IIRC, other (main) dishes are 14-16, and beer is 4.50 - 5.50/pint, so the pricing's pretty standard. If anyone's wondering about the location, it's here (on the NW corner of the intersection of Grant & Commercial).
I could do May 2nd too, as far as I know. Oh, and tickingclock? Of course!

Oh, I should point out that if we do decide on Main St. I'd vote against Locus. The food's gone downhill (portions cut in half, and not really good anymore), and the service has been sucking too. The Main isn't bad, and The Reef is one of my faves. (All of which are Main & 26th sort of area.) Not really sure about other places, but the last time I went to Sawasdee (sp?) (Thai food) it was amazing, but not really the place for a meetup. It's more about dining.

Sorry to have to miss this-- our housing co-op is having a meeting with a rep from City Hall that evening to deliver our feelings on the Mt. Pleasant Community Plan (as in, we'd really rather not have a major artery put in behind our building-- so wish us luck).

Sounds good, tickingclock...I'll try and fashion some sort of MeFi sign for easy recognizability. I don't have any pics on line, but I am bald/shaven headed, about 5'8, and if I don't have an English accent when you talk to me, you've got the wrong guy.

I'll be there at around 8 tonight. I'm about 6 ft, brown hair, glasses and I'll probably be wearing a blue peacoat if it continues to pour like it did this morning.
