man, i think that post has serious problems (i'm part of the thread mess, in fact) but even i don't think it needs deleting. it's a sort of shitty post, but it's not a guidelines violation, really.

But I'll qualify that by saying that I only feel this way because it turned out not to have been written by a man, after all. When I thought it had been, I flagged it as offensive. No, I'm not sure what that says about me.

The post is very meh, overly contrived, and infini thinks she's being charmingly sly when she's really just being cryptic and smug. All that taken together, sadly, still doesn't make the post delete-worthy.

I disagree, infini posited a theory that there is a correlation between power and looks but didn't provide a single link to back it up. Something like this (but better than this hastily googled article) would have helped the post.

You're not really watching Army of Darkness with the right audience unless every one of them gets the Day the Earth Stood Still reference. And if everyone thinks this is the funniest movie they've seen in a long time, then you know you're in the company of true nerds. Bonus points if they're all physicists.

Evil Dead 2 > Army of Darkness

AoD is good but the budget was too big for my tastes. Raimi was at his best when he had to work at things and engineer shots himself, and not simply throw money at a difficult tracking shot, IMO.

Also, Evil Dead II is totally an LSD movie. There's just no other explaination for some parts of it. AoD is all over the place with obvious gags and easy jokes.

I dunno, Evil Dead II plays like a tour de force, while AoD feels forced and contrived, to me. Like some suits saw Evil Dead 1 and 2 and said, "Hey that's great... Have you ever considered making REAL films?"

At least half the fun of AoD was the fact that they took the money, they spent the money on ridiculous sets, costuming, etc., and they made a hugely-budgeted, b-movie-acted, fabulously camp movie that was right up there with 1 and 2 for cheese value. Besides.. it has an animated necronomicon. How can you not love that?

Evil Dead 2 > Army of Darkness

Oh hell, It's on.

Evil Dead II is a better movie in that it's a more complete horror film, which is what the movie was attempting to be. But in that respect, the first [super campy] Evil Dead was actually scarier. The fact is, that Evil Dead II was not meant to be truly scary, it was meant to be ironically funny. Which it was.

And Army of Darkness was even better. AoD was built to be funny. Really, it's a mistake to ever call it a horror film (which the reviewers do.)

Army of Darkness is all about bad one liners and big set-pieces. And in that respect, it's the perfect conclusion to the 'trilogy'

So, it's unfair to compare them. AoD is with out a doubt, funnier, and ED II is no question, scarier. Mr. Raimi was clearly working towards two totally different ends. And as far as I'm concerned, he succeeded.

[Though I will be the first to say that the theatrical release of Army of Darkness was better than the Directors Cut. Argue with me on this point, and I will call an atheist's Fatwa on your ass.]

Well, quin, I agree with you that ED1 is the scariest, and most campy. I suppose it's just a matter of tastes, but in my opinion, ED2 was the opus. AoD just seems too heavy-handed to me.

Have you ever seen Within the Woods? The early early prototype of the series? It's simply grand. :)

Also, you have watched these movies on acid, right? That's a big part of my PoV here. :)
