Record a cover of Elliott Smith's Waltz #2 for my friend August 25, 2006 9:29 AM Subscribe
Followup / second call: record a cover of Elliott Smith's Waltz #2 [mp3]for a wedding gift for my friend. [original thread].
I'm a few months into lessons, looking at the tab and listening to it, this may be within my reach if I practice enough. dunno, I'm going to give it a try and if it is at least halfway acceptable I'll do it. It'll be a good learning experience one way or another.

A quick google didn't turn up anything free, but it looks like you could purchase the piano score o'er yonder.

Good god, this is going to be difficult to do well.
Missed the earlier post, but I'll see what I can do w/ limited time & resources.

Oh man. I so want to do this. I can sort of play it on my keyboard, but my problem is getting it recorded decently.
I don't suppose anyone's up for a collaboration in the Seattle area?

I just posted mine.
Incidentally, I always thought the chorus was "I'm never gonna' know you know," rather than "know you now." I must have listened to the song a couple hundred times and always heard the words in the chorus wrong. But I like my wrong version better.

Is this still open? If so, I plan on laying down a few versions of Waltz#2 this weekend. I suppose.
And you want lots of Waltz#2, rather than lots of Elliot Smith, right?

It's still open. Go for it. And I'm looking specifically for Waltz #2, but deviations and dalliances are being ruled out entirely, so if you get any crazy ideas don't let me stop you.

- Due date: 9/13 or so at the latest—the wedding is on 9/15;
- original recording in mp3 format (don't tell the RIAA);
- lyrics via IRFH right here;
- covers can be wildly interpretive, or super straight-forward, or anywhere in between;
- if you have The Perfect Idea for another ES song or a wedding related tune, I'll be receptive to a couple of those;
- I'd rather have your not-quite-perfect recording than not have your perfect one on time;
- I won't be distributing this except to him; if contributors are game, we might put up a little website for it, but we can worry about that later. (And there is, of course, Music.)
My email is in my profile; ideas/questions/submissions can be fired in that direction, naturally. Those of you who sounded even remotely committed to the idea in the previous thread will be getting a nag email, as well.
