what is sploid?
It's a news filter/agregator. Heavily editorialized, but usually with several links to real news stories in their posts.

Given that MetaFilter is regularly being cited in the New York Times and such, I think examples such a Sploid cite are not worthy of special notice. We've been noticed by sites of this caliber for a long time, and frequently.

I harrumphily await the day our gibberings here are noted by aliens.

OMG!
I've linked up MetaFilter many times over at Sploid. If the MeFi comments are as interesting/informative/ridiculous as the article itself, it's good to send people to the discussion as well as the linked articles. Plus, it's a way to say "High Five the Stick!" to sites I regularly scan for possible Sploid crap. (We link to Fark threads sometimes, too ... shhhhhh.)
'Course, we do the old-school "link a relevant (or not) bit of text," which makes it more fun for people who don't check where they're headed before they clicky the click.
