Thanks for adding resolved tags to your AskMe posts June 28, 2006 6:03 AM Subscribe
Related somewhat to the post below, I'd like to thank everyone who has started adopting the custom of adding "resolved" or "updated" tags to their questions. Browsing those tags can be very interesting.
Uhhh, okay, sorry, it seems like I'm the only one using "updated," but at last "resolved" is taking off.

Just went through all my old AskMes and added "resolved" where appropriate (not to mention tagging the older ones and adding comments where the thread was still open). Thanks for suggesting it.

Yes, I'll begin tagging mine too-- thanks for the reminder.

Wouldn't adding "unsolved" be more useful?

This really isn't a big issue for me, but since it comes up all the time..
I think you need three categories, resolved, unsolved, and resolved? (a fourth, unsolved?, maybe..). That would more accurately reflect the way questions get answered in practice.

I've just gone through and added a couple of "unsolved" tags. Good idea, cillit bang.

I just added an updated. Works nicely because there really wasn't just one answer that was the best, but the cumulative advice helped muchly.

unresolved?
reunsolved?
and we could tag really urgent ones as "super-dooper unresolved to the max!"

Okay, so maybe updated is better.
That still leaves a problem though, what if it gets updated 4 months later, again 6 months later, and again just before the thread gets locked?

I noticed some people use "stumped" for that, when I tagged a question of mine (which I initally thought should have been easy to solve).

I think the problem with "stumped" is that people who haven't read this thread but see it as a tag on questions might assume it's a tag people put on their questions when they first post them. It can easily be read as "I'm currently stumped, here's my problem, maybe y'all can help."
