The Guardian scrapes Metafilter... April 10, 2006 3:34 AM Subscribe
I thought jb, cribcage and delmoi might be interested to know their comments in last week's thread about liberalism on US campuses were published in Saturday's Guardian.

I couldn't find them with a quick look, I should say they only used a few sentences from each.

They quoted short extracts of each with attribution, their use falls within the remit of review / news reporting.
I don't see any reason why this would not be covered by fair dealing.

Right - but without access to a copy of the Guardian to see otherwise, the OP made it sound like entire comments had been taken wholesale, no?

I buy the guardian international edition on Saturdays when I can, and I saw this, however there is no way I can find it in the on line edition. Here is the search.

I wonder if it was a Marina Hyde article. She's well known for 'lifting' articles from other sources, including blogs.

movilla: No, they have a specific bit which quotes different blogs on a couple of different topics.

movilla, xould you please give us a link about that, or something that talks about this. Even if it's just another throwaway blog comment that accuses somebody of plagiarism.

Ah...biffa: I wonder if you're referring to the "Today on the Web" page 2 regular blog quotes, collated by Ben Rooney.

No, the Saturday edition has a page called the webpage with a section 'what the bloggers say...', page 38 this Saturday. (I just popped into the library here to check.)
