Ive learned here and elsewhere that Metafilter is rightly proud of its moderation. However it took me almost a year to recognize when a mod has  commented. The current visual cues are too subtle for me, especially because I use large fonts and can see only a small amount of text per screen. This pony is an access request (to accomodate both my older eyes and my short-term memory issues) as well as a suggestion for improving the Metafilter experience for new users.  [more inside]

Currently things like political debates (and similar unique events, such as Apple announcements) tend to play out in related threads on the Blue. Since that just adds to (usually) already-long threads, wouldn't it make sense to require that dedicated posts be made on the Purple? (I'm not alone in thinking so.)

I've had this open in a browser window since sometime a week ago Monday. There's been so many good links to videos, interviews, songs, plus all sorts of great stories. This kind of community is part of what's kept me on MeFi for so many years. <3

This post is one of a number of posts I have seen on the site over the years exalting the dumb, dangerous, and illegal practice of trainhopping. Can we just call a moratorium on these posts? While I think I probably am more sensitive to this issue than most people here because reasons, I'd be exceptionally distressed and pained if someone were killed or injured doing something they saw romanticized on Metafilter.

This has bothered me every year so I'm just gonna flat out ask: why no brick and mortar stores in the MeFi Mall? This just doesn't make any sense to me. I'm sure many MeFites own stores and would love to offer Christmas discounts to other MeFites in their city. I'd certainly do so at my record shop--I'd also like to support other MeFites who own independent businesses. What's the logic behind excluding those of us with small businesses simply because we do not sell online?
