Any interest in a MeFi day of service or volunteering?
Basically, I think it's rad that the folks in Chicago are cooking brunch for families at the Ronald McDonald House and think it'd be cool if other folks did similar things in their own cities, perhaps on one designated day. Just a thought, would like to know if that's been suggested before.

The best of Metafilter compilation*
Back in 2009 someone posted this question asking members for the posts they'd include in a Best Of Metafilter book with all the best advice from the hive mind.
But that was 7 years ago. So I'd like to ask the question again, 7 years later: Can you give me the link to the best things you've ever read here, something that actually changed your view of the world or made you a better person? [more inside]

A Policy Question
Can anyone explain the policy of not notifying an anonymous poster why or even that a request is denied?

Content blocking websites are garbage and should be flagged.
A recent FPP is completely unviewable. I tried - it blocks me from viewing, demanding an email address and agreeing to a complicated TOS just to RTFA. Websites like wapo, wired, telegraph, etc are actually impossible to view for many users, and I am surprised that links to them are allowed in FPPs. [more inside]

Privacy policy, revisited
I think the last discussion on this was several years ago where the general consensus was that the staff just hadn't "gotten around" to creating a privacy policy. Unless I'm missing something it looks like you still don't have one.
It's not that I don't trust you guys to do the right thing. It's more that having a clear and comprehensive privacy policy is just the sign of being a good internet citizen, so to speak. Metafilter is a good community website that should set a good example for others and that includes having a clear privacy policy.
If you do have one and I just didn't find it, my recommendation would be to have a link to it clearly displayed in the footer of each page.

What topics to include a content warning for?
When posting to Metafilter, what would you consider including a warning about, so people know what to expect in the content? Or, what would you like to have a warning about before you click on a Metafilter link? [more inside]

Balancing IRL and Askme
Is it impolite or unethical (or even possible because of the rsvp function) to attend an IRL event to meet people and not reveal your online name? [more inside]

Ad-blocker-blocker links
These user-hostile links are unreadable unless you are willing to disable your ad-blocker and expose yourself to malware. Should we consider a policy regarding posting them to the front page? [more inside]

Site of the Dead
Could I suggest that if you know some really interesting figure, you find some good info on them and post it now, before they're dead? [more inside]

I'm home
In the What's New thread a while back, I mentioned I was having heart surgery and being terrified. I received a lot of well wishes from mefites, to which I would like to respond, collectively, Thank You.
I've just gotten home this evening to an enormous pile of mail, but I wanted to drop a quick line to say thanks and that I'll reply later in this thread (maybe on the weekend) with any gory details etc. I'm too tired now, but just wanted to show my face.
