One of Metafilter's most convenient features is how posts shown on the sub-site pages note that there are (x comments)(y new). It's great to hit the (y new) link and bounce directly to fresh content identified just for you based on your past history with that thread. Adding this functionality to Recent Activities would improve that page's usefulness under many common scenarios. [more inside]

I'm submitting this as a feature request, but I'm not sure that's the right category. I have difficulty parsing the comments in a metafilter thread. It's the way it's laid out, with the comment followed by the poster's name and other information:

Is there any way I could change it?

I'd rather see it parsed differently; prioritizing the name of the Mefite, followed by their post (in quotes, maybe?), then the remaining information. Something like this:

Time To Sharpen Our Knives posted:
"I'd rather see it parsed differently."
      1:10 AM on October 22 [+] [!]

Through some browser extension/hack/magic, is this possible?

I tend to type too much stuff above the fold for questions in Ask. I understand the reason for the word limit, and I think it's a good idea. However the warning that you're over the limit is low on information. It would be helpful, if the site is already checking for word limit, to let you know how far over you are so that you have a better idea of where to cut. This wouldn't even have to be dynamic, like Twitter's character length checker, just something that's included in the warning. Is this something other people would like, and would it be easy to implement on the technical end?

Inspired by this post, I've got a feature request for Fanfare: In the "Episode #" drop-down, add "N/A" as an option. This signals that the post is for the entire season. I think there are a lot of shows that would benefit from single-post discussions (The Fall was previously mentioned, I think) rather than one thread per episode.

So I'm cruising along in FanFare when I see this:

Doctor Who: Robot of Sherwood Season 8, Ep 3

Buuuut, when I click that title, I just get the post and title: Doctor Who: Robot of Sherwood and not any way to navigate among the episodes, unless someone happens to have put a Dr Who tag on there, it's the same for every episode, and I can pick it out from the tag cloud. And then they are in Posted chrono order, not actual airing or watching chrono order. Can we change that? [more inside]
